Using Vintage Roaster Pan Type Roaster: Experience, advice....

does anyone have any advice on using a vintage manual roaster like the one pictured below? I am not even sure exactly what these are called? Coffee roasting pans?

Can they do a good roast? Any links to a good review?

I have just purchased this one and am keen to try it out. It looks very old- even a true antique- extremely simple and robust- very elegant design.

Yes
My aunty in Greece used one similar to this unit
For Coffee, peanuts, and popcorn

Fill to a third of pot in green beans
Gas flame is better but electric element is capable
Turn handle without stopping
Control heat by taking off the heat and placing it back on dont forget do not stop turning the handle

I would also at the mid stage blow away the discarded husks quickly with a hair dryer. This will minimise smoke and roast more evenly

With practice you will be a happy roaster

I am still waiting for the roaster to be delivered. Just looking at the image it seems that the bean hole is quite small- it would be tricky to dump the batch quickly? Hopefully there is nothing for the beans to catch on and they flow out OK. Do you really think- with good technique- that these machines could produce a decent roast?

Roasting peanuts could be good. And for popcorn I imagine it is the business...

Cant wait to try it out- hopefully its all in order. Will post here when I have done so.

The one I remember was probably larger and the lid separated from the pot The lid locked on similar to a PF

We will just have to wait and see what size it is
It may also need rust removed prior to use
