Re: Bosch PHG630DCE Heat Gun
Hi Stucci,
I also have one of these HGs. I find it very good.
Ill also back-up Bolbs advice.
Also;
Are you roasting in a Coretto(BreadMaker)?
Heres what I do.
Use a cover on the top of the BM pan to keep some heat in.
Youll need to make it from something heat-proof(obviously).
Youll also need to make a hole for the HG to just poke through and a hole for the air to get out. I think opposite corners of the pan is a good idea, exit hole should be big enough to pour beans into.
This will keep more/even heat in the pan and will mean you can turn the temp down on the HG.
Add a fan behind it as Bolb suggested and youl reduce the chance of the HG sucking on its own exhaust.
In my Brevill twin blade BM, I can roast 900-950g batches with a single HG. Temp setting starts at 500-550 and then gets reduced just before 1st crack(hopefully at about the 10-12 minute mark). Then gently does it to 2nd crack.

Re: Bosch PHG630DCE Heat Gun
Hi there
I have one of these they are a very good heat gun.
You will find that the gun is overheating and cutting out, to stop this you need a fan to blow cool air over the gun, this also removes the chaff away from the roasting area as well.

Bosch PHG630DCE Heat Gun
I recently upgraded to the Bosch PHG630DCE Heat Gun (from cheap Ozito unit that had began tripping out on thermal overload mid roast). I have noticed that the Bosch seems to randomly lose temperature.
For example it will be steadily controlling at 500°C, then quickly ramp down to as low as ~130°C before slowly rising back up to the setpoint. I dont think it is a faulty display or inbuilt thermocouple, as I see a drop in temperature on a separate thermocouple in the beans. This is particularly frustrating when you have just finished 1c only to have roast temp drop 2-3°C.
Has anyone experienced something similar with this heat gun? I am wondering if it is an inherent problem with the design, or if I should be returning mine for replacement, so any feedback would be appreciated.Tags: None
