Someone up there was looking after you (and your Gene) Di :

Glad to hear that all seems OK. Wouldnt be a bad idea though to enlist the assistance of AM to give it a thorough inspection when you ext bump into each other.... Just to be safe

Yelped on realising the Gene was completely soaked and, somehow, had turned itself on - there was a lot of lightening around, so maybe a power spike.

Gut feeling is that it was moisture / water shorting the power on switch on the Gene.

THATS WHY YA SHOULD ALWAYS TURN THINGS OFF AT THE WALL !!!

Water and equipment just means a clean up..

Water and electrons = DANGER >

Di.. Any time ya over this way or at the home coming of the BOSS or any other trip in from teh sticks... Let me know.. I can have a look and test / check it out.

    Phew - Gene Lives!

So I normally keep the GeneCafe on the side tray of our barbecue - its close to the powerpoint and at the right level to watch. Unfortunately, in our new house, the powerpoint and BBQ are near the edge of the patio area.

Normally not a problem, but about 1.5 weeks ago, we had some very wild and unexpected wind and rain absolutely bucket down on us with no notice. Went out for a ciggie when it had died down a bit about 30 minutes later to hear that familiar rrrrrrr....chk......rrrrrr....chk of the Gene going around. Yelped on realising the Gene was completely soaked and, somehow, had turned itself on - there was a lot of lightening around, so maybe a power spike. :-[

Quickly switched it off at the wall - verrrrrry carefully because it was so wet and I was worried Id zap myself (not a good option when you husband is away and the only others in the house probably wouldnt know what to do if I was twitching on the ground with 240v going through me!), covered it with a blanket and waited for 30 minutes. Dont know how electricity works, but figured if there was any residual electrickery going through it, that should allow it time to bleed off.

Then I grabbed it off the BBQ and put it in a dry place.

Finally booted it up today to roast some more beans and kept my fingers crossed it was still working.

Worked like a charm, fortunately - thank goodness for that, I couldnt have afforded a new one, so it would be back to the wok for me! *phew*

    Cheers
    Di
Working...
