    Re: Behmor / Gene comparision?

    Hi Ben,

    I have owned a Gene for several years but only recently saw the Behmor for the first time.  I like both machines.  Really depends on your budget and batch size.

    Heres a quick comparison;

    - The Gene costs almost double the price of the Behmor
    - I personally find the Gene is best with 250g beans (holds a max of 300g), but the Behmor can cope with ~400g in your typical roast.
    - The Gene is a lot easier to clean up.  Everything ends up in the Chaff collector and there is virtually no mess.  The Behmor collects chaff in the bottom of the roasting chamber using a clever design.  However, I would describe the cleaning process similar to emptying the crumbs from your toaster  (a little messy).  In my opinion, the Gene is better suited to roasting indoors (which I do over the stove in the kitchen).   If you roast outdoors, then this is not a consideration.
    - In both machines it is easy to hear first and second crack.  Due to the nature of the Behmor design (think snack oven with a rotiserrie) the cracks really echo and stand out.

    - With the Gene you have full control over time and temperature.  There are no profiles.  The behmor has profiles, but I have been told that profile 2 is the main one that everybody uses.  On the demo roast that I watched, the final result was just as good as the Gene.

    Not a full review, but Ill leave it to others for further comment.

    Cheers
    David

      Thanks for the input

      I own a Gene, and am quite happy with it, but as you know, you can never have enough toys! Just looking for justifications - lol
