Bassway melted his as the chassis is plastic. But I dont know if that was due to his HG mod or due to the design. I have PMd him. It sounds the goods though! Thanks heaps for the help too!

Mal I have just bought a baby roaster so cant really justify spending $400 on another roaster (not to mention the money spent on my new coffee machine and grinder in the last month ).

I just want something for bigger batches and figure a $100 bread machine and cheapish heat gun with a warranty will do the trick. I will also hit the op shops armed with a list of suitable no mod machines, it isnt the worlds biggest town but there are plenty of oldies about so may get lucky. There is also the pawn shop but last time I went in there their prices were more expensive than Hardly Normal.

did Bassway get back to you on the melted Breville BBM100? Was it his mod, or the plastic chassis at fault?

Wanted to PM him, but of course, because I havent posted yet, I couldnt- so I decided to post in this thread instead. 

Just got into roasting, so Im considering the purchase of the Breville BBM100 as a secondary option- should I fail to find a (BB250, BB280, BB290, Country, etc.) in my local salvos/ cash converters.

Found a Breville BB400 at my local cash converters for $30.
So thanks- but dont need any further information on the BBM100.

I can certainly recommend the Breville BB290.

As shultzmyster pointed out, constant kneading cycle is 27 minutes after premix of 3 minutes.

Another good thing about this one is that you can sticky tape the heatgun onto the control panel so you can do away with the drillstand, tripod etc al and keep it simple and uncluttered.

As far as im concerned, the less clutter, the less hassles.

Its still going strong after 7 months.

You will need to look for it in the local classified newspapers.

Here in WA, it would be the Quokka.

l ended up getting the K mart BM and its very similar, first couple of minutes intermittent then all good after that....never ran out of time yet ( goes 20 mins all up )

Hi, I know Im a bit late in this thread, but...... for what its worth, Ive been running a corretto using an old Tiffany bread maker. I never had access to the manual but after fiddling around I found that on "program 9" I got 5 minutes on intermittent stir then 25 minutes of continual stir for a total of 30 minutes. This has proved to be fine for my roasting, Ive never run out of time and in fact I use the first 5 mins as  a "drying/preheat beans function.

I just picked up a tempo breadmachine from evilbay got it home & only runs on dough cycle for 6 minutes :-/, the sparky at work was too busy to play with it & i get impatient where coffees concerned , so I kept an eye out for another one on evilbay & low & behold a brand new bb250 came up (2nd hand )$46 & runs for 27 minutes on dough cycle ,no
mods!
What i"m trying to get at is keep looking & get one that has been tested to run long on dough cycle ,I have been looking for a while & notice they come up (the dough cycle ones)often ,so you should be able to get one.

Hey MeP , l was checking those $29 BDs out yesterday...didnt look too bad .......shame about the dough cycle...l read the manual too thinking itll do 20 mins , but as youve pointed out it really is only 14.......hmmmmm

I just picked one up for $29 @ Kmart and gave it a run, you need to be aware it dosent run straight for 20 mins. For the first three it pulses, for the next three is stops for 2 secs every 30 secs then youve got 14 mins of good old fashion dough cycle.

Ive just returned from K Mart, this week they have a home brand breadmaker on sale @ $49.00!
Setting #9 is the dough setting, the fist phase is a 20 minute knead.
I havent seen it in action but maybe this is a cheaper alternative for those wanting to get into Corretto home roasting.

Fair-nuff mate....

Didnt realise you owned a Baby Coffee Roaster. I think though, after reading lots of feedback on the Baby, you might be disappointed with the outcomes from a cheap and quickly knocked together Corretto.

As with other forms of coffee roasting, youve got to put effort into the detail of the system in order to get the best results from it and this will require more than a simple heatgun pointed into the top of a BM. Learning all about what is required is fun though....

Im with David. Much better to try and locate a cheap used BM that still works, from St.Vinnies or similar. Makes the project a little expensive if you need to use brand new components.

Id give serious consideration to buying a Behmor from Andy as a better alternative to heading in that direction.... 8-)

I own 2 Breville breadmakers, a BB250 used for roasting & a BB420 for breadmaking.
Both have a dough setting that will allow you to roast without modification. They cost me under $30 each from the local Vinnies/Salvos shop.

The Breville website has a current model; BBM100 Recommended retail price $129.95

Page R25 of the online recipe book shows the following;

Sequence for DOUGH setting:

1ST KNEAD: 2 min (the paddle rotates intermittently)
2ND KNEAD: 28 min (the paddle rotates continuously)

1ST RISE: 10 min
PUNCH DOWN  10 secs
2ND RISE  50 min
TOTAL TIME: 1hr 30min

Have already read it. None of the modless machines mentioned are still available new, have looked on evil bay and the ones mentioned are all local pick up.

Which is why I made this thread, rather than post in that one since it isnt made for questions. I have also ran a search through coffee snobs and came up totally empty for anything still currently available.

Was hoping someone may have bought one and just not posted in that thread since there seems to be way more Corretto roasters on here than posts in that thread. Unless they all use the same 11 machines mentioned in there.
