  • Meltdown...

Had a meltdown in my popper last night.
I thought the healing element was off and I turned off the fan. I smelt something funny which turned out to be the plastic fan melting.

I think the rest of it is OK but I might need to buy a new popper cause a new fan is probly too much trouble to track down in a hurry.

Does K-mart still sell those $12 poppers?

Also crazy clarks were selling them for $12 too, try other discount sales shops too, often they sell cheap toaster , kettle and other kitchen appliances.

If its the white one with the black top youre talking about, Aldi also have had them several months ago so it might be worth keeping an eye out for them there too

        Re: Meltdown...

Well my local kmart didnt have any and a few phone calls didnt turn up a cheep one so I got another cornelius from myer for $44 and now Im back in business.

This time Im going to wire it up so I cant make the same mistake. Ill put a little transistor in next to the solid state relay so it only turns the heater on when the PID sends its 12V signal AND there is DC volts going to the fan.

          Re: Meltdown...

I put in a simple little transistor circuit with a fairly generic npn transistor salvaged from some dead audio gear.
works beautifully, the SSR only switches on the heater element when the fan is on and the pid is putting out 12V too.
