  • A couple of new roasters

I got an email from Amazon mainly because I was browsing their books on roasting. Other than the Coffee-Tech Baby Roaster (though they use the more PC Home Coffee Roaster, not the Baby), they listed these two. The first is called the Nesco Deluxe Pro (a name that almost immediately made me discount it as a serious roaster). The second is listed as a nut roaster. Not sure if its any better than roasting in a frypan with a spoon.

The Nesco looks like it would screw your beans up arent these just a bigger iRoast2?

I agree that the nut roaster is just a frying pan, but if it was the right size you could cut the center post down and motorise it from the bottom and plonk a turbo oven on top and.......... no too much hard work.

Flynn, you already have two better roasters than these dont you ?

I think that "Nesco" roaster used to be called a "Zach & Dani" roaster of all things and despite its unusual design features, didnt do a bad job.

Pretty sure Javaphile used to own one....

True, not claiming these as desirables, and they arent new on the market, just new to my knowledge ...and different: The Nesco for its screwy design and when I saw the nut roaster I thought portability.

Youre right about the Zach & Dani, Mal. Theres a good review on SweetMarias about it. Can handle batch sizes of about 250g but long roast times.

Yup! That was my first purpose bought coffee roaster. I traded it in for my 3-barrel Gothot.

With a bit of attention to ambient temp and air movement and with a good electrical supply I got very consistent results. The down side was you were limited to about 120g for most beans to get good times. A friend has the newer version and he claims they can now handle 180g with good results. As long as you dont take the beans to a really dark roast very little smoke is emitted from them. As with all roasters with in chamber cooling youre better off dumping the beans into your own cooler when they hit the roast level you want. A nice thing about this roaster is that you can easily do that with-out destroying the roaster or yourself.

Searching on here for posts by me with Zack in them should bring up all my posts on using it.

            There is one on Etsy

The javaPRO-CRC =mini= Coffee Roaster comes fully assembled and ready to go! This Coffee Roaster is based upon the RONCO 3000 Compact rotisserie, professionally modified for coffee roasting.
A couple of models, the mini at 2lbs

Have heard the roast times are fairly long though, 25-30 minutes from memory and 110volts of course
