Yep- When you start talking 3000W or more of element (which you need to roast a kilo) and 15-20A circuits, you get into exxy gear. This is why Andys Behmor is by far the best out of the box current option to manage 300+ g.

Wow this seems like such a lot of money for a 1kg home roaster. Isnt there 1kg semi-pro roasters that can be had for not much more than this?Originally posted by 596C6166524E626B6B68680D0 link=1314234426/3#3 date=1314320731I guess its why USD$5k was spoken of in the case of the 1kg Gene when the prototype was first shown.

I think the problem with this one would be that the market for such a product is far, far smaller.
The spend on R&D for the BES900 was big- and it shows... If you were to amortise a similar spend on a roaster which might sell to perhaps 1% of the market who would buy the dual boiler, the numbers become scary.

All Id like to see is a roaster that can roast ~500 grams of beans, looks nice, comes (factory) with a bean mass probe built in and a nice USB port on the side of it for modifying/setting profiles as well as temperature reporting... I know Im dreaming though.
