Greetings. Just thought Id share my popper mod with you all. Ive named this rig the Hillbilly Popper due to the crudeness of the parts used and the gangly appearence. Basically had to use parts lying around, cant afford to buy stuff for a more professional mod.
This is the Jethro-1 model which was a spinoff of the original Jethro. The Jethro was simply a glass cylinder cut from a vodka bottle and fitted to the top of the metal rim of the popper after removing the original chimney. I wanted to have a view of the beans as they roasted.
This worked fine but there was the limitation of amount of beans that can be roasted with a stock popper. So the next step was to get more air pressure to lift more beans and thus the Jethro-1 was born. I removed the fan and motor from the popper and used the output end of my Stinger minivac as the air source. This worked well also but after seeing a post on Homeroasters.org in which a member used a heatgun and whiskey bottle I decided to experiment with that idea.

Instead of trying to vary the air pressure by controlling fan motor speed I use a ball valve to adjust the air flow. I also use a router speed controller to adjust the heat.

This next pic just shows how I dump the beans. The whole popper section lifts up out of the lower plastic piping. I plan to add a wire mesh screen in the neck of the bottle so that just the bottle needs to be removed.

This is a 3-segment video showing first the original cylinder mod, then just demonstrating the capability of the rig to push beans. Not actually roasting in the 2nd & 3rd segments, just a demo. So far the roasts have been very good.
