    Re: The Jethro-2 roaster mod

Shot a video today to see how it would roast 1 cup of beans. Video is in two parts. Sorry about repeatedly putting the meter and timer up in the camera, I didnt think they would be very visible on the table due to the glare.

Also, I started out by saying I would run the temp up to about 250 but really took it to about 300 before lowering it back down some.

So, if you like to watch paint dry maybe these wont be too painful to watch.  :

nice work, im working on a similar project. What capacity do you reckon yours is while maintaining a nice fountain of beans?
The minivac will push a lot of beans, the limiting factor is the heat. Im guessing that this rig will do at least 1 cup of green beans. Cant give weight since I dont have a scale.

For an idea of the capability of the air pressure check the video I posted in the Hillbilly popper mod thread. Im using the same air source for both. The 2nd & 3rd segments of the video is using 2c green and 2.5c of already roasted beans just as a demo.

As much as I like cofee and like to roast I dont drink a lot of coffee so I dont roast much at a time. I roast several varieties in small batches. Soon as I run out of my last batch Indian Mysore I might try a full cup of greens with Jethro-2.

If I try a full cup I may video it so you guys can witness a spectacular failure or hopefully a success.

Edit: Btw, I cant take full credit for my design. I got my inspiration from a posting on Homeroasters. Heres a link to his video:

    The Jethro-2 roaster mod

Jethro-2 is complete and is just a further mod of the Hillbilly popper mod but I dont consider it a popper mod anymore.

The only parts in common with a popper are two heat elements taken from a couple of poppers and are mounted inside the can. I use two router speed controllers to adjust the heaters separately. I dont believe 1 controller could handle both heaters since it is rated at 15A.

First pic just shows the basic parts minus the heaters.

Next few pics are just different views and with a couple of different bottles.

Last couple of pics show the bottle Im currently using. Red stuff is high temp gasket seal to insulate the glass from the hot metal. I also used it to attach a piece of screen to the bottle.

Ive roasted two small batches so far and both came out pretty well. Ive already started on a modifcation to this rig with a heat element taken from an old heat gun. Should provide even better heat than the two popper elements and require only one controller.

    Cheers.
