I agree with what Attilio has said here- however having traveled to Taiwan quite a few times in recent years- I must say their coffee culture is quite well developed for SE Asia- and growing very rapidly. There are some full blown coffee snobs (see pictures of a micro boutique in Tainan- and another very large emporium)- and many niche coffee specialty stores stocking the whole range of domestic e61 machines, as well as many different manual brewers.

Also equipment manufacturers are now exporting coffee machinery in increasing quantity to the Chinese market which is expanding almost exponentially... One of my Taiwan contacts mentioned that in the last year Taiwan has seen a big and unexpected increase in trade (not just coffee equipment) - as many buyers move away from Chinese suppliers- wary of quality control issues and also price increases.

Having said all that I know nothing about commercial roasters...

Looks like the same people I spoke to at the HOST exhibition. As others have said their roasters look to be very well built. In comparo to the std of build of the usual turkish roasters, they look far better built and finished. That said, we know that turkish roasters work....

The down side, coming from a country that some might consider to be only "emerging" in coffee interest, is I thought them to be very pricey and therefore lost interest in the untried (as in new on the market and therefore unproven) sample sized roaster that I could have been interested in.

That said, they do look very well built. How that translates into the std of roast I have no idea, and it may be as well to remember that different ethnic groups roast differently to others, have different styles of coffee, and therefore have different expectations / requirements of their equipment. If that means buyer beware of new manufacturers until someone has done the investigation for their particular market, then so be it. Beware also (until proven otherwise), your ability to get good after sales service out of the manufacturer once the equipment has been bought and put into service, especially for clients that have little or no experience in coffee roasting and are therefore only just emerging themselves.

That is, always go into these things with your eyes open.

Mark had a good look over them at CafeBiz and his comments were "interesting".

The relative spend was more than the equivalent Has Garanti product.

I guess we wont know too much more until someone here bites the bullet.

Can I use one to get home if I can find the right gauge train line?  ;D

I met the owners of Proaster at the recent Golden Bean competition. They had one of their sample roasters there on display and as a prize for the overall winner. It looked very well built and finished, though, not having used any of their equipment I cant comment on performance.

We were told that they are selling 40 coffee roasters per month in Korea! Thats a phenomenal amount of roasters that seems to be a reflection of the growth in the Korean coffee industry eg. a 6 story coffee shop.

Like everything coffee equipment related, I imagine it would need to be configured to local requirements.
