    Re: Starter Pack contents

This is where the Breadmaker setup starts to shine.

Java has done 700 grams. I reckon a big BM could do 1 kilo ................

    That is the challenge.

      Ahhh. up to 1 kilo.

Welcome to the realm of the BBQ roaster.
Come on in, the waters fine.

Ive NEVER looked back from the BBQ. I usually do 720g green which roasts down to around 500g, but I have more than once done 1kg green.
It was very liberating after doing multiple roasts in popper/Imex each week and being concerned at the variations between them.

1 roast of (usually) uniform level - lovely.

The BM/Heatgun sonds like a real winner.

I still use the popper when its raining or for small sample batches but for everything else - BBQ.

I considered going the BBQ route too, but I just couldnt find anywhere to get a drum made up, without going to great expense. Thats when I discovered the BM/HG roaster :-)

It too was a breath of fresh air (literally) after using the popper.

MJ - You can use a chimney, I use a piece of stainless steel pipe that the local exhaust shop sized especially for my popper.

Hmmm Im sure I have an old copy of macromedia flash lying about somewhere . . .

You can just take you popper to an auto shop and try the various exhaust tips for size as well - the chrome ones are even shiner than mine!

Sounds like a plan ... all I need then is some blue strip lighting and subwoofer for the doof-doof music... lol.

The chimney being a Heinz soup tin I gather... also assume that this just slots into the top of the popper and not fixed on in any other manner? Time to get some beans!!! Next I guess Ill be undergoing the coffee machine overanalysis crisis routine... lotsa spreadsheets comparing price/performance/bling... :
                  Hi mj,

Welcome to CoffeeSnobs mate [smiley=thumbsup.gif], the site for coffee when only the best will do (hmmm, I think Ive heard that phrase somewhere else a long time ago :-?).

I reckon the best thing you can do, is to pay a visit to one of the site sponsors (if possible) and let them show you what a range of various machines and grinders can do and still fit into what ever your budget constraints may be. Nothing like first hand knowledge and an opportunity to actually play with the machines being discussed. All the best, and good luck with your search for the optimum coffee combo,

                  Cheerio,
                  Mal.

Thx Mal... thats certainly on plan for me sometime soon... done some reasonable research at this point but nothing like actually putting some fingerprints on some nice shiny steel and pulling a few levers to work out whats going to work best for me. Hoping that a few places in Sydney will have actual real working machines in the flesh rather than brochures and technical info.

Of course my budget is <-> big and my desire is <--------> big... but with my other hobbies I have learnt that it can be cheaper to buy once than upgrade three times... lol.

"And he shall rain down upon you from the heavens, beans of the finest green, and they shall be high grown beans of small estate and thou shalt receive them gladly. Cherish therefore the beans that he hath given you and take them unto the warm places until they darken and swell. At these signs you shall know them ready - first they will rejoice with loud crackings and a heavenly aroma shall arise, then shall they darken and swell. For the lighter roast you may take them now but for the darker roast of great intensity bless the beans with longer heat until they once more rejoice with great crackling and smoking. Then shall you rest, yea and the beans also for a full day and then another. Thus may they be made ready for the drinking thereof."
