Re: Starter Pack contents
Yeah i think i will go with the heat gun.$36 for one from bunnings seems a cheap enough starting point
Although the poppers are cheaper around the 20-30 mark. The gun seems to give you more control from what ive seen&what many have stated.
Trial & error will be the go....Baked beans or roasted.
See what happens........Catchya...Zappa

Re: Starter Pack contents
I got my starter pack last week... and it had...
Indian Mysore Nuggets
Brazil
Mandheling Grade 1
PNG A grade washed
I have just finished roasting the rest of the Brazil .. Attached is the pics
I agree with Grendel, a popper is a cheap way to get started. The below pic is 3 batches of approx 100g at a time... ended up with 240grams of coffee (bean lose some weight when roasted)... took the beans to 30secs into 2nd crack... or until blue smoke started to appeared :-)

Re: Starter Pack contents
Zappa,
My starter pack received 3 weeks ago had 600g of each of 4 single origin coffees - not blends.
I got:
Indian Mysore Nuggets,
Panama Panamaria
Columbian A
Guatemalan Huehuetenango
And also a pack of Tea. For more on my embarresment about the tea you can read my blog (link) which also details my recent coffee roasting experiences as I learn the fine art of turning beans into coffee.
My 2-cents worth is that youd be best starting with a $22 popper to get a feel for the process and then progress from that point. The popper is easy to control and gives good results.

Starter Pack contents
Hi - I was wondering what blend of green beans comes in the starter pack. It mentions that you get 4 x 600grams - are they 4 different blends. Does anyone know the postage cost to Brisbane. I am really interested in going down the road of home roasting and look forward to sharing my successes and failures with you all.
I think I will go for the heat gun option, it seems a better option than the popper. Any suggestions for the novice.
