I can hear the 2nd crack ok....

mj... remember, the 2nd crack isnt the same as the first, the second is more a crackle, like rice bubbles in freshly poured milk...

I just did some Bali and I roasted for 9mins all up... pulled it just before rolling 2nd crack...
oh well... will try again soon... all I can say is that my rice bubbles must have been soggy yesterday... hehehe.... but Im sure its just a matter of knowing what to watch out for.

The first crack was very obvious... like fireworks... but if there was any kinda second crack it sure was subtle. I knew pretty much when it looked done, but  thought at least for the first go I should keep going to be sure.

Thats true, but if you intended to roast "Swiss Water" Decaf, that changes everything. The cracks are less evident and the colour is deceiving...

Have fun trying again.. I roasted about 700gms of coffee yesterday... Decaf, Peru and Bali (seperate)...

Thanks Marc... Ill have another go soon and come looking for advice if Im still unsuccessful.
Ill just stick to the Indian Robusta till Im happy that I know what to do as I am guessing (of course I could be wrong) that it is the lesser bean amongst those I currently have. Ive no decafe right now so that wont confuse me just yet.

Marc - how do you reckon that putting the Crazy on the container helps flow - wouldnt a rack be better? Just a thought. I had mine on a flat surface inside and grossed the kids out with the smell...

              Cheers

You definitely should raise the Crazy.
Theres not much clearance under there.

ozscott, by the sounds of it, you have plenty of airflow for your Crazy Popper..

But yes, it does increase the airflow. More to the point, if youre roasting on a hot day, you put Ice Cubes in the container... that was my original train of thought

TG has gone the extra step further...

                    Re: Starter Pack contents

Ive tried the ice cubes too with what looks like an almost identical bowl.
If I had to roast when it wasnt in the cool of the night, Id use the ice cubes again.
That was a good idea marcstolk.
