A useful thread. I thought I wanted the new Alpenroast, but Hottop is going to get the opportunity to roast my wallet by the looks. Thanks for all the info.

      Hi ,

So what has become of the Hottop , Australian distributor saga . Are they distributing from australia or not ? . Also what has become of the Genecafe that certainly looked like a good deal , did you manage to try out one yet Andy?.

We should point everything (about the Gencafe) back to the original thread...

          Paul:

The hottop is alive and well and being distributed from Queensland.

The email address is hottop@ms12.hinet.net and the contact name is Shelly.

They seem to be selling reasonably well. The main advantage is their capacity and they are also quiet.

They are also very well designed generally which is what you will find out if you get one!

          Regards,
          Grant

              Hi Grant,

I was wondering the specs for the hottop say a max batch size of 250g , however that drum looks like it could easily hold half a kilo . Whats the largest batch you have roasted sucessfully in the hottop ?

                Paul:

I have roasted up to 300g as per my review. I havent tried more.

I suspect it wouldnt handle more than 350g and possibly less but that is a guess on my part. Certainly at 300g though it works just fine.

I havent BEAN tempted to roast more and I only roasted 300g for the purposes of the review.

                  Hi Grant,

Are there any other differences between the two model other than the display . Some reviews seem to say thats the only difference and other reviews say there are more differences between the two models . The hottop site itself doesnt really talk about any other differences . However some sites like Randy Glass review show a number of other differences. It is a little confusing

                    Paul:

I would go by the review you mentioned. I think that he catalogues the differences.

I would go for the digital as the built in temperature display is something I use all the time.
