Re: A (Epic?) journey in search of my perfect roas
The on-going saga continues.
I took the roaster in to be sodablasted today and after driving for over an hour to get it there I arrived only to discover nobody in the shop. >
So in spite of all the arrangements to have it blasted while I waited for it I ended up having to leave the roaster there to be blasted later.
Mal, the roaster came to me wired for 220v 50Hz 3-phase (so I was told). Its plate says 127/220 with no phase number given. Hence the entire discussion over whether it was usable on a single phase 120v circuit.
The one motor rewinder whos been willing to quote me a price said it would run a minimum of $160USD to have the existing motor rewound for single phase.
Theres currently a 1/2HP rated inverter on evilbay with an opening bid of $1 and so far no bidders so Im hoping to be able to snipe it at the end of the auction for the $1. ;D The unit has an input of 240V single phase to operate a standard 230V, 3 phase motor with a maximum full load amp rating of 2.4 amps per its spec page. Seeing as mine draws only 1.2 amps per its plate it should be more than adequate for the job.
I cant find any info on whether the voltage is infinately adjustable or only setable for the voltages given. Given the wording on the spec page I suspect that the output voltage is determined by the input voltage. Either way being that it has 230v capability I figure it should be able to run my 220v motor with no problems.
Upon further investigation it seems my motor is only a 1/4HP unit and not the 3/4HP Id been told which makes things a bit cheaper, but not by a lot.
The roaster will either be set up on its own dedicated 240v circuit or sharing an existing one wired into one of my printing presses (which has an old turn of the century 1/4HP monster DC motor on it) so hopefully there wont be too much of a problem with RF interference from it. Plus all my computers here are surge and RF protected and theyre the only things Id worry about it interferring with. Even so Ill definately look into a filter for it.
