I am a new member to this site, and would like to thank you for the excelent reviews and comments on the Gen Cafe roaster. About two months ago I decided to get into roasting my own beans and was trying to decide what machine to buy. Thanks to in no small part to this site I decided to get the GC. I am very happy with my choice.

I hope I’m not stepping out of line here on the sensitive subject about the Gene Café to pass Australian electrical safety standards. :-[
I have taken my GC apart many times; I know what’s under the hood very well, I back Andy’s and others who have made comments on how well this roaster is built, electrically I have one issue that I have reservations about, the 3 core flex is a bit light for my liking .
The GC is rated at 240v ac 1.2 kw, the flexible cable that supply’s the GC is .75mm 3 core flex, .75mm is rated at 7.5 amps, the GC draws 5 amps @240v ac the fuse that protects the GC is rated at 8 amps, so technically the fuse out rates the flex which is not a good thing, the easy fix would be to insert a smaller rated fuse, I feel that this type of appliance should have a 1mm flex, which is rated at 10 amps. This is only my opinion; the bottom line is that GC is CE Certified, which will go a long way in getting this great roaster an Australian approval.

Now that these are no longer available at Talk Coffee, and little chance of anyone else being able to meet up with the quota expected by the wholesaler, it doesnt look good for anyone such as myself getting a hold of one of these. What a shame, I had the money saved and was most dissapointed when told by Talk Coffee the news.......

Thanks for the feedback, Dennis. My Gene Cafe is winging its way to me from HasBean as we speak!Originally posted by Dennis link=1128873789/75#78 date=1182651381I dont know for sure Neil, but my instinct tells me this isnt such a good idea. I dont think the openings are big enough for a dishwasher to be effective and would be concerned that the rinse cycle wouldnt be effective either - for the same reason.Originally posted by NeilD link=1128873789/75#77 date=1182641232Any one know if you can put the drum in the washwasher for cleaning?
Neil
I dont wash mine often as it doesnt appear to need it. When I do, I use a mix of dishwashing detergent and fairly warm water, give it a shake and rinse, then work a clean tea towel down into it as best as possible to dry. It would be handy if the baffle section would slide out!

Hi.Originally posted by Rich Stronach link=1128873789/45#47 date=1137215564The coffee came out perfect. Often my popper would heat up so fast that there were often divots in the beans from heating too fast. The GC roasts very evenly and the beans looked beautiful.
My weekend starts tomorrow, and I plan on roasting a batch or two more for me to play with the new addition to the family. I also have two of my coffee roasting buddies coming over to do some roasting. If I discover any other revalation about the GC, I will make another post.
What was the quantity of coffee you used?
Regards,
Theodore.

Re: Gene Cafe CBR-101 Review (was Genesis i Rosto)
Hello Theodore
Welcome to CoffeeSnobs.
The best way to cool down Safely and Quikly with your Gene Cafe is to let your roaster and coffee cooling at 100C
Then you can stop the cooling from the Gene and use your super cooler.
Your roaster can safely stop at 100C then if you need you can start an other roast.
When you push ON again the roaster will turn to the start position.
Please, DO NOT turn the drum manually
All the best with your new roaster
Serge
