Good info on the effects of overloading the roaster.

What I have learned about short-cutting the cooling cycle is that if you push and hold the left nob for 3 to 5 seconds, it aborts the cooling mode and comes to a stop.  From there I can load the coffee into my bean cooler which stops the roast pronto and brings them to about room temperature in 20 seconds or so.  I am a little hesitant about doing this because the temp display shows an "E", and I can only assume it is telling me she is too hot.  The two times I have done this I have turned the roaster back on and forced it back to cooling itself while empty.

I have about 6 roasted batches under my belt now.  Each batch is very consistant.  I am still going a bit long on time, around 20 minutes, but I believe this is due to humidity (around 93%) lower temperatures.  I will bet good money the roasting time will be lower as the weather improves.

I have to say I realy am liking this roaster.  I have two roasting buddies that had to come run some beans through for themselves, and they were quite impressed with her.

As for the Fahrenheit factoid, I would welcome the metric system more as mainstream, unfortunately America is too used to this system.  About 20 years ago there was a big push to convert, but it didnt get too far.  Something about teaching old dogs new tircks comes to mind!  Heck, I can bearly spell Fahrenheit!

    Hi all.
It is my first post here.
I have bought one GC from Has bean .Very satisfied from the service. I collected the roaster in Athens Greece, almost immediately.
I ordered one bean cooler http://www.u-roast-em.com/cooling-pan.html
without the vac, and I will use one with my vac.
I have a question to ask.
    You say,
"The two times I have done this I have turned the roaster back on and forced it back to cooling itself while empty".
How you turn the roaster back on? You push simply the "on" button ,( and have it on for how long), or you do something else?
    Regards,
    Theodore.

A Honda motorcycle roasts coffee? But where does the chaff go? Is that why the exhaust pipe is perforated? How do you hear first crack above the engine noise? At what RPM do you roast? Question, questions, so many questions.

Why is it that everytime I read the title to this thread I start thinking of motercycles. The first time I was wondering why on earth there was a review on a Honda motorcycle ;D

    Dear all the CS members

With the Gene Cafe now available in Australia, the coffee roasters will get a great chose.

The Andys review was very relevant on what the Gene Cafe roasters can brings to you.

If you need more information or just curious of it, please send me a email at  sibonis@smartchat.net.au or simply PM me.

    Cheers.

I stumbled across this video (warning, 18mins long) http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...54440054705737 reviewing the roaster.

The unit is definitely quieter than I was expecting, given how quietly the guy seems to be talking.

(great, making it even more attractive to upgrade now...)

Ahhh, thatll be the Gimli Glider. Google it and you will find an interesting read. All to do with fuel density values used to determine how much fuel is on board. The crew were probably drinking coffee when they ran out of fuel . Is that back on topic?

Since I work in aviation I spend most of my time dealing with inches, pounds, feet, knots, gallons and psi. So long as Boeing keep churning out aircraft it will probably remain that way for a while. Here is a link to a useful conversion program that is handy to have.

    OT rules!
Isnt there a famous aviation incident caused by refuelling happening in lbs when the captain wrote the figure in kgs? Plane ran out of fuel. I think they managed to land it with no fatalities.

Be a rebel Rich! Any time you have to give a measurement of some kind give it in metric. You get some woderful reactions from people and make them think, all while raising the awareness of the system the rest of the world besides us uses. ;D
