    Re: Hottop or Genecafe?

Even if you contact Frank, he was only keen to sell 100 unit batches.

Hence my decision to buy the Hottop.

      Greg:

You will be happy with the Hottop. It is a great machine.

It works so well and makes the roasting process so simple and predictable.

I really wish the US would get its head out of its nether regions and adopt the metric system. I much prefere it over the hodgepodge crud currently in place.

We have had a Genecafe 3 years and it now needs repair for the third time in the last year. We average only one roast every five days yet the thing jammed last time and now the heater is on strike. It has to be posted to the central coast of NSW for repairs. The repairer/agent does the job promptly but this is getting tiresome and at his time of year I fear it will take longer.

With any product there will always be the 1 in 100 that has recurring problems. I think the vast majority of Gene Cafe users run with minimal if any problems.

If youve been happy with it why not purchase another one (new or second-hand), and keep the old one for spares? If youre spending a lot on repair bills it may work out cheaper overall?

Except that the gene is apparently hard to get hold of and, as Andy says above, the hottop is available from QLD.

Id be inclined to go for a kkto though for low cost and ease of sourcing spares.

Site sponsor Avacuppa is the importer and they have stocks of the Gene Cafe and spares for it available for purchase on their website. I wouldnt classify that as all that hard? :-?

Nope, not hard  at  all. Makes Andys post a bit mystifying really. Why would an aus distributor be needed if one of his sponsors already imports and sells direct?

I was just going by what I read further up the thread about having to buy 100 at a time.

Incidentally, I am happy with my hottop (bought used, couldnt afford a new one), but thinking about TO just for more capacity. Never used a Gene.

Note the date on that post Kettle. A lots changed in six years. Back then Hottop conducted all transactions out of Taiwans head office so you had to order via email and pay via international money transfer; but stock was held and shipped from a warehouse in Brisbane to minimise shipping cost (this was the complicated supply chain Andy was referring to).

Today both the Gene Cafe and Hottop have local importers and distributors (avacuppa (avacuppa.com.au) for the Gene Cafe, Pullman (hottop.com.au) for the Hottop), so both are readily available.

Call it pre xmas induced brain fade. Or perhaps a senior moment.

Ill go back to reading rather than posting til my brain is fully engaged.

Just been reading about the new large capacity hottop though. Interesting.

My stove vents in the same way. Even on very windy days, the window fan does remarkably well. The smoke that comes out from the bean chute is even sucked towards the fan. The space between the window and my Hottop is probably between 10-12" FYI.
