Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
I am from the states and I have just begun my roasting career. I never considered myself a coffee connoisseur, roasting sort of found me. I recently graduated college with a degree in agricultural economics, but there is very little opportunity for college grads at the present time. I realized that I was in close proximity to many coffee producing areas, and believed the margins to be good enough to try to sell some locally just to pay the bills. My first roaster basically fell into my lap, being a Nesco variety. At that moment I came to believe that destiny was with me. After much study of this forum and others, and using my cheap roaster, I learned the basics of roasting and produced some delicious coffee. I then purchased a bread machine and a used Steinel Hg3002 heatgun, which has become my most prized possession. I have no proof of this, but it makes me feel better to say
. However, my real dream has been to produce a solar home roaster for around the same price as what we pay for our diy systems. After two months, 35 failures and 34 serious sunburns, I have finally feel confident enough in my roaster to show it to the public.
I will post some pics as soon as I get it. I dont want to spam the forum with commercial offers, but I figure you guys (and gals) have an abundance of sunlight and serious interest in coffee roasting, so why not? It has definitely been an interesting process with very many dead ends, but something about roasting with the sun makes me very happy. Thank you all for the sage advice
