Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
Hi James
Thanks for the feedback.
The halogen lamps came from bog-standard 500 W floodlights, about $10 - $15 each from Bunnings or such...
Please dont hesitate if theres anything else you would like to know.

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
Nice work brainiac, like the look of the drum roaster, thinking about a possible build myself. Where did you source the halogen lamps and about how much were they?
Cheers
James.

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
My #2 roaster is a hybrid hot-air / mesh drum, uses an old B&D 1400 Watt heat gun, and roasts 300 grams in about 10 minutes.
Cooling is achieved by turning off the heat gun heater element and allowing the heat gun fan to cool the beans, with the drum turning.
Fan and drum motor (ex Subaru electric window actuator motor) are powered by a surplus ATX computer power supply.

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
I use two roasters - both home built.
My #1 roaster is heated by 2 500 Watt halogen lamps mounted inside the drum, and roasts 600 grams. It sits on a built-in cooler.

They dont call you lucky for nothing?
Gave away a 4.7x2.4 shed to a mate he has vintage motor-cycles, he owes me a 4x3 shed he has that he out grew.
Every Aussie boy needs a shed, Im currently making do with 1/2 a double garage and mother gets snarky when my crap encroaches on her side. Claims she has to park her car there.

Thats only about 1/5 of the space available in that particular shed. I have 9 other sheds (10 including the fire wood shed).Originally posted by TEPIN link=1134076855/180#192 date=1222692978You have way too much room in your Shed.
The biggest one is about 10 metres square

Just finished this today
Ive been piecing this together over the last few days and just finished it sarvo
Breville BB280 bread machine, Ryobi 2000 watt variable temp HG, AEG portable drill press,
and a cobbled together bean cooler.

My bean cooler came from and idea I got from Thundergods cooler.
I had an old mistral exhaust fan that fits perfectly in the top of a large plastic pot plant bucket.
I cut two large holes in the sides of the bucket to let the air out
The large diameter white PVC tube is a piece I had left over from PA speaker ports I used to build back in the 90s.
The colander is a $3 cheapy from the reject shop.
Dump the hot beans into the colander, a quick stir with the whisk and theyre stone cold in about a minute.
