    JavaB,

Do you know what BMs do paddle for 20mins without the mod?

Im considering this option of moving to the BM Corretto solution...

      Mark,

The Breville Country is one which doesnt need the mod (the model Belinda used and others have also bought since....) Not sure if that means all the Breville BMs or OK but Id guess that might be the case.

Sunbeam arent.... they stop after about 12 minutes. I had to mod mine... just requires a switch (about $3 from Dick Smith) and someone who can do it for you if you dont have electrical skills.

I have the breville country but I will try our my sanyo (that we use for breadmaking) and let you know how long it paddles about for.

Yes, thats my problem... I actually need to buy one for bread making... so I may as well buy 2 for twice the price :-)

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?

It would appear that all Brevilles arent created equal. Mine is a Breville bakers oven which, when used on the dough cycle, pulsed for a few minutes, spun for a few minutes, pulsed a bit more, sat for a bit, spun a bit more. You get the picture, totally un-suitable  ;D
It has now been modded for correct roasting operation and is able to spin continuously with the use of a switch

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?

I bought a breville second hand, is not a country but couldnt tell you what model it actualy is. Didnt come with instructions. It agitates for 3 minutes on dough cycle than spins for 27 minutes continually. The pan is a square shape and is tall. From the pics on here the country seems a little more rectangular than mine. So at leaste 2 breville models dont need any mods.

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?

Is there a way for us to list which models are ok. :-/ Maybe a new thread where only one person can add a model to a single post. That way a quick glance will provide a good starting point for people to start looking, rather than having to read pages of posts.

Now there is a novel idea! That is my plan, I bought it not knowing whether I would need to modify it or not. 3 minutes of pulsing doesnt really worry me. Just means I need to switch it on and set everything else up in the 3 minutes than I am ready to go. The way my crazy popper goes I could probably get a roast in whilst the corretto is warming up ;D

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?

Ive done about 5 roast on the GC now, loving it, where I work we are all Flat White drinkers so that may explain our darker roast preferences compared to those above. I basically followed the tips on the sweetmarias website, I crank the GC upto 250 (it never reaches that temp), put the time to about 25min ( I always start cooling before then). I always roast 240g, My best tasting roast so far has been 50 % Mexico Chiapas, 25% Guatemala Huehuetenango, 25% Sumatra Gayoland, roast time 19 min, top temp 240 degrees (full bodied with nice chocalate undertones), guys in the office think Im tripping re the chocolate, they just like the free coffee. I too cant hear the cracks, I think I may have heard the second one once at about 15 mins, Im basically roasting by preferred colour. Im just sourcing my green beans from the local trade aid shop, Id love to know more about the beans, when they were harvested, how they were processed etc., but enquiries have only responded in vague responses, that seems to be the unknown part that could hold up long term consistency. Enjoying the blending, waiting to find that blend that will blow everyone away so that I can quit my job, buy a 15kg roaster, and cruise by the beach.

                            Lionrock,

this site http://www.unionroasters.com/ourworld.asp will give you a lot of info about different processing etc, but maybe not about the specific beans you have.  You could also try www.sweetmarias.com who also have a lot of really interesting and useful information.

Hard to believe there are still only 12 people using the Breadmaker/HG to roast with. Oh well.

                                But there you go.
