Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
I reworked my drum for my rotiserie convection drum and used some woven stainless mesh with 3mm holes in it. I put a lb of zambia AA in it and this is the result... Ray.

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
Interesting post Paul [smiley=thumbsup.gif],
This really does look like a viable alternative to using a HeatGun with the BM and capable of really superb results. That Indian Tiger Mountain roast looks absolutely spot on mate 8-). Thanks for the info and the piccies,
Cheers,
Mal.

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
Awesome thanks
Here tis:
And some more (some blurry) pics: http://www.users.on.net/~paulandgeni/images/roasting/
It still needs a cake tray in between to seal the whole chamber for better temp stability. It runs at around 90% duty cycle at max temp (250). :-/ Taking around 12mins to SC for 100g, 20mins for 200g, havent yet tried anything in between.
Thanks to farmroast for the idea!

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
This topic rocks!!! Magiver and myth busters eat your heart out, some of the inventions here are mind blowing. Ive been using a popcorn machine up until now, Ive got my prototype going, its not original except for the loading / unloading method, my machine has forward and reverse on the rotiserie which allows me to empty the drum onto the tray at the bottom... take a look.... Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
yeah the peaberry a few fall through till they start to expand a bit, nothing major maybe 3 or 4Originally posted by Wushoes link=1134076855/120#127 date=1176894141What material did you use to make the drum? Im re-engineering my drum as too many beans get stuck!
Do you have any problems with beans falling through or getting stuck?
I have some ideas for improvements based on everyones comments (thankyou to all) I have some fine gauze I can use to spread the heat and help tame it some and I will build a shroud over the top
any thoughts on the shroud? I thought perhaps bringing the drum closer to the flame and leveling it out some and putting a cover over it which would turn it into more of an oven than a griller, but it would make it harder to see the roast

Re: What do YOU use to home roast?
I toyed with a similar idea once. Too much heat from the flame of the portable burner. If you have some sort of enclosure, you can really turn the heat down, which will also save you some $$$ in not having to replace the butane cans so often.
Wu, he said he got it from a truck air filter.
