  • probat sample roaster on Ebay

    Hi

Check this out someone is selling a Probat sample roaster on Ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Probat-Pre-1Z-Electric-Sample-Roaster-with-1-drum_W0QQitemZ7614145083QQcategoryZ105832QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem

I checked out the specs on the roaster here

    http://www.probat.com/index.php?root=114&id=551

This sample roaster has a capacity of 80-100g , at $5-6.5K who would pay this much for a machine that you can pretty much duplicate by modifying a popcorn machine.

Coffee roasters, cuppers, and graders would and do pay that much. They dont want or need large quantities. What they do need however is something that will roast as close as possible to what a full sized commercial roaster will and do it consistantly batch after batch. One right after another all day long. Day after day. For years.

      Paul,

re "...who would pay this much for a machine that you can pretty much duplicate by modifying a popcorn machine...."

Sorry mate, please read Javas reply above carefully. The salient point is "... something that will roast as close as possible to what a full sized commercial roaster will and do it consistantly batch after batch..."

A popcorn machine no matter how well modified, is nothing more than toy that neither a) produces consistent results within each single batch, nor b) produces consistent results one batch from another, nor c) duplicates what you get from a properly designed commercial roasting machine. Which means that anything you get out of it (popcorn) from a commercial point of view is worthless and cannot be cupped or compared properly for quality.

On the other hand the kind of fun you can get out of a popcorn machine at home is priceless, and a totally separate issue@!

      regardz,
      FC.
