He has written several articles on roasting that make for enlightened reading and has them posted on his site here: http://www.bootcoffee.com/articles.html
    Yes indeed Java,

I havent read all of his articles as yet but the few I have make for very interesting reading and he certainly has got Roast Management down to a highly finessed level of control. And as he says, there is no reason why his system can not be applied to other forms of Roasting..... Would make for a very interesting project indeed and I can understand your interest in it mate. After all youre not called Java "Must have more control" phile for nothing ;D

LOL Indeed Mal! Im all about experimenting but once Ive determined the ideal roast for a particular bean Id love to be able to duplicate it at the push of a button. Not only in the Gothot sample roaster but to then be able to take that same control algorithm and plug it into the controller of a larger commercial roaster.

Unfortunately this type of control does not come cheap. The electronic flame control system that Willem had installed on his Gothot runs about $3,500USD, and that would be just the beginning of what Id like to see as it has no logging nor computer interface/control. Purely electronic flame control.

Id like to see his system taken a step further and actively integrated with a computer to allow full logging and profile control. One of these days......

        Re: new controlled roaster

Was at church today (I mean Bunnings), buying myself a heatgun. Ended up with a simple Bosch one, but I did note that the Makita one had inbuilt thermocouple temperature control, and was fully adjustable. Cost $134 though, but it might save a lot of hassle. (still, hassle is fun, right?...)

That makita is the one I have. I bought it for another purpose but will soon be used for roasting. Just got to get it from Newcastle to Sydney and all will be good.
