    Well if you are careful....

First get yourself some insulation tape (hardware shop, Dick Smith even some supermarkets)
Actually, a more robust and longer term solution would be to grab some suitably sized Heatshrink Tubing from DSE or similar.... a couple of sizes, one size big enough to slide over a single core of the cable and another piece big enough to slide over both cables together. Also, you get to use your heatgun for yet another purpose ;D.

Cut sections of the Heatshrink about 50mm long then slide over the bare ends of the cable so that you have about 25-30mm on the cable with the balance overhanging the end. Using your trusty heatgun set on high, apply heat to the Heatshrink from all sides until it shrinks around the cable uniformly, and the overhanging bit shrinks right down so that it is closed or all but closed. Now, double the overhanging bits of heatshrink back over the cable and then slide the slightly larger piece of heatshrink over both cables and the doubled back sections, then whack it with the heatgun again, as before until this piece is well and truly reduced as much as it will go. All thats need after this is to trim the end off the larger piece so that it isnt longer than necessary as to be a nuisance, and... Voilà, the job is finished and for all intents and purposes safe for the life of the machine .

Ordinary old insulation tape is ok for a temporary repair but not when longevity and ongoing safety is the main issue.

    Cheers,
    Mal.

Done, done and done Java. And it still works too ;D

Now to drill some holes for the lower probe position for those tiny roasts - under 120 gram

Had to lower the heating element by taking the rear bracket off for this. Now it just rests on the bottom of the inside.

    Again with the power off!!

Cut off the green wire - yes that is the protective earth to the lid. Wrap insulation tape around the end so that the bare wire at the end is covered. You can then poke it back down into the body of the BM (it is insulated so if it touches something with voltage on it - you wont short it out and blow a fuse!)

Then cut the two wires to the globe. Wrap each of the ends with insulating tape, again making sure that the bare wires at the tip are covered. Then tape both wires together with insulating tape at the end - just makes sure they are well and truly insulated!!

Then these two can be pushed down into the BM body.

Dont leave them too long when you cut them off.... they shouldnt be long enough to go down too far into the body or they might get caught in the drive mechanism at the base of the bowl!

You could also just tape them to the outside of the case - but wouldnt look as good!

    Thanks Java

Unfortunately there is no writing on the bulb at all. No writing anywhere at all inside the lid even :-/

I might try and did up the manual.

    Belinda...

My guess (and that all it is without actually seeing it) that it would be a 240V globe of some sort.

Is it a replaceable globe? If so can you remove it (with the Corretto unplugged from the mains!)...

It should have something like either 240v 5W or 12V 5W or 12V 0.5A... around the base just below the glass- either stamped on or painted on.

Post the results and Ill try a more "informed" guess.....

Failing that, Grendel could bring his along to the BeanBay collection and I can check "in person"

Heres a picture of the opened up lid. The green wire is attached to the metal bottom part of the lid (which is at the top).

Speaking of mods, Ive taken the lid of my Breville Country BM (same as Grendels) off, but it has wires to a little light bulb.

    Seen here http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1154442377

Can I just cut these wires?

or leave it connected to the light bulb and dangling?

it also has a green wire attached to the metal of the lid itself, an earth I presume. Can I just pull this off too?

Im thinking these wires are 12 volts or similar, but Im no electrician ........................

I reckon you need some way of levitating the beans individually so they pass through the field slowly and with some degree rotation.
Have Scotty rig up some miniature tractor beams. ;D

WAit for it, wait for it. . .

Now! Cue Belinda who by now should have figured out how we can use the above for roasting coffee!

It does look rather inviting doesnt it ;D

Shiny balls and flying sparks roasting each bean to their individually profiled optimum level [smiley=evil.gif]

    Nope...

I think there would be far too many divots in beans roasted that way ;D
