First get yourself some insulation tape (hardware shop, Dick Smith even some supermarkets)
Again with the power off!!
Cut off the green wire - yes that is the protective earth to the lid. Wrap insulation tape around the end so that the bare wire at the end is covered. You can then poke it back down into the body of the BM (it is insulated so if it touches something with voltage on it - you wont short it out and blow a fuse!)
Then cut the two wires to the globe. Wrap each of the ends with insulating tape, again making sure that the bare wires at the tip are covered. Then tape both wires together with insulating tape at the end - just makes sure they are well and truly insulated!!
Then these two can be pushed down into the BM body.
Dont leave them too long when you cut them off.... they shouldnt be long enough to go down too far into the body or they might get caught in the drive mechanism at the base of the bowl!
You could also just tape them to the outside of the case - but wouldnt look as good!

Well if you are careful....

Actually, a more robust and longer term solution would be to grab some suitably sized Heatshrink Tubing from DSE or similar.... a couple of sizes, one size big enough to slide over a single core of the cable and another piece big enough to slide over both cables together. Also, you get to use your heatgun for yet another purpose ;D.
Cut sections of the Heatshrink about 50mm long then slide over the bare ends of the cable so that you have about 25-30mm on the cable with the balance overhanging the end. Using your trusty heatgun set on high, apply heat to the Heatshrink from all sides until it shrinks around the cable uniformly, and the overhanging bit shrinks right down so that it is closed or all but closed. Now, double the overhanging bits of heatshrink back over the cable and then slide the slightly larger piece of heatshrink over both cables and the doubled back sections, then whack it with the heatgun again, as before until this piece is well and truly reduced as much as it will go. All thats need after this is to trim the end off the larger piece so that it isnt longer than necessary as to be a nuisance, and... Voilà, the job is finished and for all intents and purposes safe for the life of the machine .
Ordinary old insulation tape is ok for a temporary repair but not when longevity and ongoing safety is the main issue.
I think I have found the ultimate bread maker. I bought one a month or so ago and it stirred for 27 minutes after a 3 minute pulse. But I went to my parents over the weekend and claimed their bread maker. Breville Ultimate Bakers Oven series 2 model#BB410. It is fully programmable and you can set it so it has no heat and just stirs for up to 60 minutes. I havent actually used it yet but have programmed it and tested that it will indeed do this. Just programmed it for 30 minutes and was fine. So easy to do and holds the program in memory, only one in memory (which is fine for me). I am sure it will be hard to find but well worth it all the same. So now I have 2 but I may off load the one I bought now that this one is superior. This one is a wider pan where as the other one I bought is the tall square type.
Anyone know which is the better style of pan?
