I am also offering an identical discount to buyers down Talk Coffee way $720 + shipping if required until the end of Feb.

Im roasting and taking many pix as I write this...photo essay to come very soon! I am thrilled with the results my unit is producing and the flexibility. I think the outcome may be more even than that of the hottop and the tweakability is teriffic! I have pushed my unit to 350g and still got great results.

      Alrighty- here we go...

I measured 300 g of PNG A (supplied by Andy of course  8-))

      Loading the drum

Close the top and youre ready to load

      Gene Cafe loaded

      Close the lid

Set the time and temp. using the rotary knobs- Infinite control over profile  8-)

      Ready to roll!

      Circa 8 minutes

Circa 1st crack- about 15 min

Circa beginning of 2nd crack- a couple of minutes later

End product on removal of drum

And emptied out- note zero chaff!

and weighed...for just over 15% loss

      Cya later chaff

Good point, it might come down to that !

Just for a matter of interest, Is the PNG A a wet processed or a dry , In your opinion how would the Gene Cafes chaff collector cope with 300 grams of dry processed beans !

It was a wet coffee MZ. The chaff collected may have been 1/100th of total capacity and the chaff collector on the Gene is enormous in comparison to the Hottop...In conclusion, no problemo!

Do you have to wait long between roasts?

                  Hey Grendel,

It cools for perhaps 10 min after the roast- at which point you can go again immediately...

Re: Gene Cafe Roaster in Australia

If you look at the pic, Gene Cafe loaded, it shows a recommended level for dry processed, so going by your 300 gram level , the recommended level for dry would be about 150 gram, a big difference, I tend to favor dry beans myself . Maybe if other Gene Cafe owners would like to comment on how the the Gene copes with 300 grams of dry..

Re: Gene Cafe Roaster in Australia

MZ- by "dry" they mean green....300g of anything is a doddle for this machine. Have a look at the size of the chaff collector- shown left relative to the size of the drum. A hottop will do 300g dry hulled beans and it has a simple tray less than 1cm deep as a chaff collector

Going by that pic again, If by dry means green, well your 300 gram demo, is really a walk in the park for the Gene .. Im almost tempted to say thats impressive !!, but I would like another opinion from a third party other than you or Serge, no disrespect intended... :-X

No probs MZ- Ill do naked cartwheels for you if it doesnt. Id do a batch of Ismaili or Matari now to prove the point but I went a tad silly...I have over a 2 kilos of experimental blends (which incidently have lots of pulped and dry hulled bean in them) degassing :-[

Come up to First Pour tomorrow morn, meet some CSers grabbing some beans and lets prove it live
