ps.  I am beginning to get callouses on the palm of my hand from shaking the beans in the wire-mesh bin when I cool them down
Dennis, there are easier ways to get callouses on your hands. ;D ;D

To cool beans, pour them slowly from one colander into another, having about 300 mls of air space between them. You can also use a small desk fan to blow air onto the falling beans, and at the same time blow away chaff.

    Theyll cool within seconds.

I was using that method Robusto - pouring beans from colander to colander that is.

Then Viviane suggested the waste paper bin, and shes a woman and Im a man - probably no need to say any more than that, however jokes aside, her method works much quicker. And from my understanding, a quick cool down method is best. If I rig up a fan as well as all the other contraptions its going to take me 20 minutes to set up...and Im too impatient for that. Testament to that is that I started with a popper, upgraded to a HG within a week, made inquiries re the tn-1 by week 6 of my roasting career - not to mention the 3kg of beans Ive gone through.

Might end up with a gene ....who knows!

I mentioned a while back that cooling to room temp within 2 minutes is acceptable.

From where did you obtain it?
Its a rod whisk. I bought it from a little kitchenware store in Leura (in the Blue Mountains) a while back. Cool store. They had heaps of interesting/unusual stuff.
