  • Commercially Bought or DIY Roasters?

    Some people like to create things, some people like to have it all done for them.

    My question is;

    Even if you had the funds to purchase a purpose built roaster (ie Hottop, Gene Cafe or a 1 - 5kg Roasters) would you buy it or are you the sort of person that likes to create things from nothing and is happier using a roaster you created yourself rather than just going out and buying one?

    No brainer for me...

    I get FAR more satisfaction from making/modifying/fixing gadgets for just about everything!!

        I buy or sell roasters as I trust the real pro, you can create your own one but getting the perfect one is an other question.

        Im extremely fussy with roasters.

              Maybe there should be an option for "A Bit of Both"

                  I didnt make my drum, but I assembled all the other parts and made it work. Still going strong (with the same windscreen wiper motor) for over 2 years now.

                  I do also have an Imex but its relegated to emergency duty in the shed when it is too wet to roast outside.

                  I suppose Id consider a commercial unit if it could do 1kg green, be programmable, have a usb connection and software for profiles, have a gas bottle attachment, look cool and cost less than $1000.

                  Gee, I dont want much do I?

                    Unfortunately youll have to fork out a lot less than $1000. Oh well.
                    And you could attach a gas bottle if you wanted to.

                        Hehe, just thought of using a gas bottle... has anyone tried using a blow torch for roasting in the BM or drum style?:P
