All the best for your new venture Dennis.

Can you share your trading name yet?

Also I am interersted in your fan and duct set up, any pics?

Thanks to a variety of sacrificial beans, particularly Mao Horse Harrar, the drum is finally seasoned.  8-)

I had some problems with ventilating the smoke the roaster produces but thanks to lots of research, advice, and an additional outlay of money for an incredible fan and 10 metres of ducting, the problem has disappeared into thin air! 8-)

Tomorrow, were off to the Daintree for a week before I go back to work on the 7th to hand in my resignation.   So Ill soon be out of a job to hopefully do something I really love - fingers crossed!  ;D

Had problems lighting up the roaster today. To his credit, the supplier arrived at 3.45 today, travelling from his home in Picton on a Saturday afternoon. We found the following problem...

A pipe used to measure air pressure variance from the roasting chamber and chaff chamber had melted on the stove pipe during the last roast. As the sensors could not detect the correct air pressure variance between the two chambers the unit wouldnt allow any gas to the pilot light.

    All good again now!

Thats great, Dennis, and I wish you all the very best in the venture. You dream the dream and then you have the courage to make it happen.

    Keep banging down those doors.

Well share the adventure vicariously from the safety of the computer screen.

    Youre all so close!

Ive established one or two relationships with local restaurants who have expressed interest in me supplying them with their coffee. The Sutherland Shire (where I live) is very parochial, and I hope to leverage off the fact that the coffee is roasted in the Shire, to attract customers. I have some other ideas too, though this isnt the place to go into that.

For the time being all my working energy (apart from my day job) needs to go into mastering the Diedrich, creating a network, and generating enough income to become self-sustaining. I think this will take a while considering the money Ive spent so far! :-/

Down the track it would certainly be great to employ people with a disability, perhaps initially in some sort of traineeship then moving into an employee profit-sharing arrangement. I think that would be neat.

Though please dont hold me to any of this - its all still just a dream.

To paraphrase someone with great vision:

Give not-so-well-off people roasted coffee beans and they can make coffee. Teach not-so-well-off people how to use the Diedrich and they can earn a living.

Perhaps Dennis shyness has transformed enough now to be able to pull it off.

We could have some mischievous fun and speculate on what Dennis plan is....

Im betting it is business-related, but, being the guy he is, with some charitable overtones. Low-priced but high-quality freshly roasted beans for the deserving not-so-well-off.

    Any other ideas?
