  • Heatgun/Dog Bowl Blues

    ok so about my hardware,
my heatgun may have too larger step between low and high heat.
im thinking i will just back it away from the beans after FC.
anyone else out there using a bowl and HG got any suggestions??
im learning, but so far i think ive learnt two ways not to do it... :-/

I only use the HIGH setting on my HG.
    Heat is controlled by distance.
    So yeah, back it away.

I use heat gun and bowl too, and control the temp by moving the gun (on high setting) up and down. This seems to be what others with breadmakers do too.

Having the gun mounted on some sort of adjustable stand is the way to go. I use a camera tripod, and 10cm movement range up and down makes plenty of difference to the bean temp, without changing the gun temp.

when exactly do you move the gun up?
during FC or after its Rolling?

I adjust my heatgun once the roast is in rolling FC.  I agree with Oily - a stand makes it a lot easier to adjust a HG.  When its handheld you can lift it up higher, but inevitably your hand drifts closer and closer to the beans.

Viviane and Oily are spot on gm, make a stand for your gun so that you can move it up and down easily (tripod, pedestal fan etc) check out the kerbside pickups its amazing what goodies you might find!
You may even find a breadmaker along the way.........................keep persevering youll get there.
