If you only have a BBQ rotis motor and you are concerned that the speed is slow you only need to add another stiring arm to the agitator
a total of 4 contact points that will in effect double the agitating contact with the beans? well I think it should

There is a massive reduction between the motor and the pulley which drives the paddle....... you can actually watch the paddle rotating without any problem..... so it would have to be only 2 or 3 revolutions per second..... well that is on my BM at least. Remember in kneads the dough.... it doesnt beat it to a pulp!
aar yes of course..didnt think of that. Thanks JavaB

    Remy,

Havent actually measured it but Id guess about 30 rpm.....
gosh..that all.  I was thinking... just going by the memory of the sound of a breadmaker,.. that it would be about the 200rpm mark. As long as each whir whir was a full rotation that is.

Ok does anyone know what rpm BMs run at?

Hmmmm...the 30yr old sewing machine sitting upstairs gathering dust is starting to look appealing to my eye all of a sudden.

I have a drill bit that is used for ceramic tiles but dont know how it would go on tempered glass.
Hmmm... this might turn out not to be as hard as it first sounded

Off to do some internet research into drilling hole in tempered glass.

But wait.....using the glass might also make it harder to fit the motor,.....so much to think about...

    EDITED TO ADD:
Forget it,.. recommendations everywhere not to drill tempered glass.
The brittle nature of tempered glass causes it to shatter into small oval-shaped pebbles when broken. :

I made the mistake of getting a pot that was too deep.  I stuck with it, and used a LED torch to see the bean colour change.  I also used a non-contact thermometer to measure temperature.  Results were far from perfect, but still very good.

You could use the bowl that comes with the TO, but Im not too sure about drilling tempered glass.
Yeah,..using the bowl that comes with it would be great,..youd certainly get a good look at what the beans are doing with glass,..put on the metal ring extender with holes for smoke.. oh chaff..that might be a problem(apart from the hole drilled in the middle for the motor rod)...hmmm anyone know any tempered glass hole drillers ;D.. no really.... I just need a little hole in the base,.. and a little slit in the side near the bottom for the chaff,..how hard can it be if youre in the trade

Remy, Aldi had a breadmaker yesterday for $69 it had 2 stiring paddles in it, thought you could make a corretto
Yeah I saw the breadmakers for $69 in Aldi last Thursday..was tempted but thought Id better jump on here first and check out how much modding this one would need before I considered it seriously,...but alas... in the meantime....I was quite impressed by the YouTube video of the Turbo head and Stir Crazy setup and bought the Turbo head instead.

Buutttttt,...since my last posts about this.... Ive been thinking  : I know..scary... anyway... Im not thrilled about the speed of my rotisserie motor,..yeah no surprises there,..it is a BBQ rotisserie motor afterall,. I know its waaay too slow. Sure it will agitate the beens, but of course its not going to keep them suspended like,..as a breadmaker speed does.

So,.. Im pretty sure I could pick up a used BM here cheaply,.. especially if its a really ugly one ,.. but what I would like to know is this;....do you think I could harvest its organs motor easily enough?? Im thinking in terms of physically and safely(is there any other terms I missed??  :).  Has anyone operated opened one of these things up and explored its gizzards internal wiring and motor housing.  Cos Im just curious if the motor itself is a neat and stand alone unit just sitting inside these things,.. just waiting to be plucked out and used for a coffee roaster,.. or whether one look at the internals would send yours eyes rolling back in your head and saying...oh yeah..that would be right grrrr .

Ok,..should it be possible (with advice along the way)..... can someone tell me what breadmaker would be a good one to look out for, and hopefully I can find and ugly one for nix.

Disclaimer: To ensure things are done safely and correctly,. I will not be doing anything without first seeking advice of a qualified electrician.

I was looking at the Turbo Oven and then down sized to a popcorn maker.  My budget was not extensive.  ;D ;D
Neither is mine... $89,.. which I think is pretty good as its a nice piece of kit. I can probably even use the glass bowl in the kitchen...erm if I was motivated enough eh hemmm....

So really,.. its like the price of two ryobi heat guns I suppose (if I include the $20 shipping for the unit). All up... Im hoping I can get away with the total cost being not much more than $150 -$160.
