Damian nice job! I like the socket concept for the stir rods. The heat application of these convection tops to the bean mass is excellent.

Ok, I thought you had the power supply from the computer powering it all. My turbo oven was one of the originals and is quite big so should be up to the job.

Hi antc, Thanks. Its pretty simple, but it does the job. The power supply case just came from a computer that had been sitting in my brothers back yard for a few years. It was a bit water damaged, but luckily the fan still worked. How many amps is the 12v line? I dont know! I am just using an old external 12V powerpack to run it - 800W from memory. All it needs to power is the small motor, and the fan, both which would have minimal power consumption.

What mods did I make? Just what is pictured above. the oven itself is exactly how is was from the shop.

Not sure I have answered either of your questions - but if you want more info, feel free to ask away!

One thing I would say if you were considering something with a turbo oven is to test what temp it gets to before spending too much time setting it up. As you saw above, my original aldi oven wasnt up to the job (only made it to about 190), but luckily the tiffany had more heat to give.

    Damian.

    Hi Damian,

Nice setup, looks like an at/x power supply, how many amps is the 12V line?

    What mods did you make?

inside. The joiners of the motor to chopstick, chopstick to socket extender are electrical wire joiners stripped of the plastic - they cost about $10ea in Jaycar, but I imagine the wire joiners are very cheap.

Hi Summercrema, from memory I think I started it on 225, and pulled it back just a touch (maybe about 215) after FC. It seemed this was probalby an ok thing to do given the roast times. Next time with this bean I will start a bit lower to try and extend things a bit.

    Hi Thomas,

Sure I will put up some more photos when I get a chance.

I put through 500gms mocha java decaf (the one from beanbay) a few days ago. it went a bit quicker this time. FC 9m, SC start 13.5m. The beans look great - even colour (well quite even considering there are such different sized beans!), nothing unusual. As an aside - this decaf is great. I dont drink it, but have had lots of compliments on how good it tastes.

So 2 roasts in, I think this roaster is great. It is so easy to use. I suspect I could do roast after roast without any breaks, as the motor keeps really cool with the fan and insulated shaft. I also suspect it would easily handle a fair bit more than 500gms beans. Anyway, I am sure I will be testing it out a bit more soon.

    More photos to come!

    Damian
