Ok, I thought you had the power supply from the computer powering it all. My turbo oven was one of the originals and is quite big so should be up to the job.

Damian nice job! I like the socket concept for the stir rods. The heat application of these convection tops to the bean mass is excellent.

Thanks farmroast. Doesnt quite compare to some others i have seen though (ie, yours!)- it took me a while to realise when I saw pics of yours that there was actually a turbo oven in there.

          Nice work Damian.

I have used a socket before to good effect, the cheaper the easier they are to drill and mount stuff to.

The real design highlight for me is the "thermal insulated shaft extension"

A chopstick is perfect to keep the heat out of the motor and easily replaceable with wear/age/charcoal. I can see that becoming a standard component of motor transfer design in CS contraptions for a long while to come now.

Hi Andy, thanks. Yes it was a very cheap socket set I had sitting around - it drilled really easily. Glad you liked my chopstick design!

Wine of the bean, it is a wooden chopstick. Courtesy of Kanda in Latrobe st Melbourne. Im normally a flat rice noodle fan, but they do a great combination satay udon noodle if anyone is looking for something cheap and yum for lunch. And be hungry - they are massive servings.

Hmm...The top of the TO looks mysteriously like a Tiffany one. Must come off the same assembly line in China.

If you like rice noodles, youll love sliced rice cake (neen go). Great with XO sauce.

neen go - Ill keep a look out for it.

Somehow I missed the broken glass. Must have been only reading on page 2 of the thread.

There are many options that can be added to these roasters. Im sure you will like it and the results you can get. Great to have more TO roaster ideas being generated too. Didnt see the chop stick shaft until Andy mentioned it. Superb concept!

Rereading this after being directed from a more recent roast.

Agree the chopstick is a simple but brilliant idea.
At one stage last year I was looking around for a supplier of teflon rods to use in the same scenario but decided they were way too expensive.
Why I didnt think of wood instead I dont know.

Thanks damian; Im sure now Ill incorporate a chopstick into my new roaster.

Hi Thundergod. It might not be required - not quite sure, but I thought better safe that constantly buying new motors. When I was interrogating the jaycar person on expected life of the motor, he said tha main problem would be heat to which he suggested heatsinking it. I went the fan and insulation instead. So far the above desigbn hasnt broken down once after almost a years use so I am pretty happy with it. Damian.

and what roast monitoring systems you got workin!
cheers for the inspiring post! potentially the cheapest 1kg roaster round!

Hi there - well roasting was going well til yesterday. first problem I have had with it, and it was the motor on the tiffany oven that stopped turning. Maybe running too long and it overheated? And isnt repairable. So off to buy another tiffany today.

Tested larger quantities? yes I did, but cant really remember - I think largest I did was around 700gms, and it began to slow things down a bit too much.

Monitoring systems? Ive got a thermocouple coming fromt eh top into thbeans.

I dont think this would ever be able to do 1kg. I think I could probably get it higher it I had much better agitation, but havent got that far!

                              Damian.

Wouldnt it still be under warranty Damian? Given that you started this project in July last year (post #15)... :-?
