Once upon a time, i purchased what i thought was a decent espresso machine, a sunbeam EM4800C with pressurized baskets.

Two months, a few litres of tears, and a few thousand hours later (im exaggerating, but ya get the idea..), I found out that despite pushing the definition of "being ana|", the machine was only going to (barely) make espresso that was drinkable.

Now im wondering if a popcorn popper is the way to go for home use. Is it worthwhile to roast my own beans in a popcorn popper? I dont want anything harsh/acrid or sour/acidic in my cup... and ii heard that poppers tend to accentuate those undesirable characteristics. I also wouldnt want to mod it too much.... drilling holes for thermocouples is out of the question for me. I just want something that works.

Does popper roasted coffee come close to coffee roasted in say an iRoast2?

offtopic: Ive finally found a place where i stay that is not near a fire alarm, has good ventilation, and has power points
