Re: How inferior is a Popcorn popper?
I never claimed to can expert. I thought Ive made it abundantly clear that I was giving my opinion, and based on my experience with a popper, and reading about results of the iR2 together with noticing its basic roasting principal is the same.
And I never claimed they were the same, I just said I think its basically just a glorified popper. I still reckon similar results to a ir2 would be achievable with a popper with a soup can chimney and a fan. Hardly high tech equipment here. Im not dissing either method, just giving my opinion on the OP.
edit: There we go, a bunch of good responses from someone with a fair whack of experience with both. I still dont think the iroast is worth the $400+/- it sells for. For the same price as buying one of those and modding it to get its potential, you could get a ramp/soak PID controller a popper, giving your programmable profiles and probably a better end result. Thats all really speculation though.
