      www.cuppacoffee.com.au

The internet allows me to be everywhere, though the roastery is at Taren Point, Sydney.

I would! Having scored 2 of the darling-est little "espressi" cups from Dennis (wussy milk drinks now a thing of the past in this house -- thanks Den 8-) -- except for hot cocoa of course :),
and some very nice PNG Kimel, [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
theres no telling what might happen if I could bring a trolley! ;D

No no no no, thats not how it works. How it works is, you buy something each beanbay, plus a few other things that take your fancy, til green beans start occupying a substantial fraction of the cupboard space you probably dont have, then each week you get to go thru the bags trying to decide what to roast!

My current approach is to pick on whatever Ive got most of. Naturally this means I have an increasing collection of bags with a hundred or so grams of beans in each one. 36-blend, incoming! ;D

PS. Been 3 days (well nearly! alright, 2) -- hows the MTE?

Just tried it as an espresso shot. Not so good actually. Very acidic. My friend just said "it kind of reminds me of beer".
Very light and sharp. Not much body.
I think i ended the roast too early. Would this be likely?

Only mentioned as a very general observation, the roast appears to be a bit light on... Maybe for your next batch "cgr", try to aim for a steady temperature gradient of 14-15C/Minute that should hopefully have you at a Rolling FC in 12-14 minutes. Once RFC has got a head of steam up, back the heat off so that the temperature gradient flattens out to only 3.5-4.0C/Minute and then stop your roast at any time after 3-4 minutes right up to when you hear the start of Rolling SC. I wouldnt allow the roast to progress too far into RSC though as a lot of the intrinsic "in cup" flavours will be lost or diminished.

Its always difficult to tell looking at roast batch photos on a PC Monitor, but to me your roast batch looks like it has barely progressed through First Crack and that would explain the "tainted" flavours you have noticed in the cup. Hope the above helps out a bit,

              Cheers,
              Mal.

A great help id say Mal. Now i have something more specific to aim for. I really need a temperature logger dont i? Hope Jaycar come through soon.

Its not absolutely essential "cgr"; thats why you see a lot of roast batch info broken into time periods.... Time to Rolling FC, time to first snaps of SC, etc. Quite useful info if you dont have a T/logging DMM.

Something else to think about, is the use of one of those BBQ Meat Thermometers of the type you can get from BBQs Galore et al. You should be able to jury-rig some sort of stand/support for it so that you can control the immersion depth into the bean mass.

These things tend to have a little lag in response compared to a small t/couple bead but this isnt such a bad thing really, helps to smooth out the gradient as you play with the heatgun setting or position. At least it gives you an indication of whats going on inside the bean mass so that you can exert some level of control over how the batch profile progresses. Theyre not very expensive either so as an interim measure, its not a bad way to go....

                  Cheers mate,
                  Mal.

I may just do that. Thanks.

Ohhhhh they can be Mal. My brother-in-law, a die-hard Weber fanatic (he cooked a pavlova in it last Chrissy - & it worked to everyones amazement :-?), invested $90 on a wizz-bang probe that relays beeping messages back to a separate device that he keeps in his pocket, indicating both the internal temp & progress of his roast (rare/medium-rare/medium etc...).

The bugger wont lend it to me to try on my bean roasts though - hes afraid Ill melt the thing. :

Anyways, Im sure theres cheaper on the market ... but Id definitely recommend investing in the DMM thermo-probe - works a treat

                      Tony

                        LOL Tony...

I dont think that was the kind of thermometer I was thinking of ,
