Didnt quite follow te electrical talk.
I am interested in the Gene Cafe now that I have read about,  think it would do the job nicely.
Same question - would it work ok in Australia??

      Re: Coffee Roaster?

      Glynn,

Getting back to your initial post, you should note that neither the Hottop or the Gene Cafe will roast 500g. If batch size is particularly important to you, youll need a corretto (bread-maker plus heatgun combination).

However if your specs have changed and youre happy to roast 300g at a time then either the Hottop or the Gene will do that. If youre thinking about either of these units you might like to read through the review Thundergod pointed to earlier in this thread to get a bit more information about what they each offer. If you settle on the Gene weve got a CS only special at the moment, details in the Sponsor section http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1163933751/6#6

        simple answer is no

had the odd 120v roasters and coffee machines in for repair over the years
they have been running off a transformer
motors run hot, causing electronmics to run hot
        = burnout

        Do at own risk

if you dont understand the way it works, and cant modifiy it to AUS ratings
        Dont

yes it is appears dearer to purchase in Aust,

when (not if) you have problems or questions.
repairs, parts and backup are not to far away(site sponsors)

Yea, 300g is fine, I plucked 500g out of the air.

Really, I just want to do better than th 80g I get out of the popcorn popper.

Its sure nice to see other guys have thought this out better than I have. Well done.

Its surprising that ALL the home-roaster manufacturers dont make models availble for 220. Seems like a good chunk of the world uses that.

            Best wishes!

Most of the world uses 220-240V 50hz and the metric system too

It would be nice to see a few of the US manufacturers of roasters do a little more toward that end

Cool map. Heck, if India and China use 220V, 50Hz, thats half the world right there!

Whats up with Madagascar and Taiwan?  Bucking the system, Id say!

                  CHAD,

                  Fill in the Xs

Who is the worlds largest consumer of "luxury" whitegoods.... and has been for quite a while?

                  X.X.X

Who was the first country to accept "throw away" white goods?

                  X.X.X.

Who is the worlds largest manufacturer of these "disposable"white goods? Taiwan!

So they might as well have the same standard as X.X.X

Having trouble filling in the Xs? Well try a U and S and an A

                  Need I say more :

                    Re: Coffee Roaster?

Blatent Wikipedia rip I deal with 4 companies in the US 1 of them has gone metric the other 3 are still holding out ;( Having a look at what is out there in the large home roast market there is a small but growing market in the 500-1000g batch but most are US made unless you go commercial.

Just for interest International System of Units is the primary or sole system of measurement for all nations except for Burma, Liberia, and the United States.

Well one thing you forgot JB
Americans are the best at spin (and I don’t mean Cricket)
They can create another economic boom by changing to 240V 50 Hz
Think of all the new shiny whitegoods to be made and sold
Let alone the trickle effect  8-)

                      KK
                      Edit
And they can go metric while there at it

My understanding is that the US went metric years ago.
They just didnt tell the public.

There would be roits in the streets for sure if the public knew that TG

The three countries that havnt gone metric are interesting too. One of the poorest countries on the planet, a militatiristic dictatorship and the USA (perhaps very very tongue in cheek a democratic dictatorship and becoming poorer very quickly thanks to the bankers and stockbrokers of Wall St ) Time to adopt the metric system to save the economy [smiley=evil.gif]

I will still be using my Hottop in degrees C and grams/roast  8-)

I remember being told as a young lad in school that wed "soon" be embracing the metric system. And I see that the English dont even use their system anymore.
