    Glynn,

Getting back to your initial post, you should note that neither the Hottop or the Gene Cafe will roast 500g. If batch size is particularly important to you, youll need a corretto (bread-maker plus heatgun combination).
I should correct this to say neither the hottop or the gene ARE DESIGNED to roast 500g. I recently completed a 500g test roast in a Hottop (http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1226661811) however I wouldnt recommend taking either of these devices to 200% of their capacity on a regular basis as youre sure to not only void warranty but shorten the lifespan of the unit.

I dont know too many people that wear "budgie smuglers" in daylight.. most go for "boardies".

How off topic can we get!!!

I love the maps of metric and power though Beanflying, its interesting to see them like that.

The other thing that wasn’t mentioned in the thread is that importing and electrical appliance without getting local Australian Standards testing will prob mean that when you get electrocuted and your house burns down you forfeit your life insurance and your house insurer won’t pay.

Be really careful using any appliance without Australian approvals. While locally sold items might cost more as least some of that would be for the testing and standards requirements.

A more accurate analysis on the speedo issue would be an age / speedo relation as opposed to geographic location / sppedo !!!

I remember being told as a young lad in school that wed "soon" be embracing the metric system. And I see that the English dont even use their system anymore.

There would be roits in the streets for sure if the public knew that TG

The three countries that havnt gone metric are interesting too. One of the poorest countries on the planet, a militatiristic dictatorship and the USA (perhaps very very tongue in cheek a democratic dictatorship and becoming poorer very quickly thanks to the bankers and stockbrokers of Wall St ) Time to adopt the metric system to save the economy [smiley=evil.gif]

I will still be using my Hottop in degrees C and grams/roast  8-)

Well one thing you forgot JB
Americans are the best at spin (and I don’t mean Cricket)
They can create another economic boom by changing to 240V 50 Hz
Think of all the new shiny whitegoods to be made and sold
Let alone the trickle effect  8-)

    KK
    Edit
And they can go metric while there at it

    Re: Coffee Roaster?

Blatent Wikipedia rip I deal with 4 companies in the US 1 of them has gone metric the other 3 are still holding out ;( Having a look at what is out there in the large home roast market there is a small but growing market in the 500-1000g batch but most are US made unless you go commercial.

Just for interest International System of Units is the primary or sole system of measurement for all nations except for Burma, Liberia, and the United States.

    CHAD,

    Fill in the Xs

Who is the worlds largest consumer of "luxury" whitegoods.... and has been for quite a while?

    X.X.X

Who was the first country to accept "throw away" white goods?

    X.X.X.

Who is the worlds largest manufacturer of these "disposable"white goods? Taiwan!

So they might as well have the same standard as X.X.X

Having trouble filling in the Xs? Well try a U and S and an A

    Need I say more :

Cool map. Heck, if India and China use 220V, 50Hz, thats half the world right there!

Whats up with Madagascar and Taiwan?  Bucking the system, Id say!

    Re: Coffee Roaster?

Most of the world uses 220-240V 50hz and the metric system too

It would be nice to see a few of the US manufacturers of roasters do a little more toward that end
