...they are also 50% more expensive!
It might work with the CS software but you should buy at your own risk.

The link that you have given is to a BM202 which Altronics is advertising as Q1080. The Q1080 is the Jaycar model number and they might be the same meter in a different case (I do suspect that Altronics is cashing-in on the fact that Jaycar dont have them).

    http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=Q1080

Jaycar no longer carry them and Altronics is way over priced.

As mentioned the meter that we are testing with the software should be $80-$90 with USB (well depending on the US$-AU$ at the time). Still a fair bit cheaper and we have it working with a new revision of the CS software.... we just need to iron some quirks with the factory before we commit to buying a pile of them.

Sorry to throw this off topic but I have become interested in home roasting - why do I need a thermocouple?? This is in relation to a popper method.

KK, I picked up one of these from Jaycar the other day - it will do the trick whilst i wait for a the new CS USB DMM to hit the streets!

          Digitech QM1320
          Frequency DMM   on special $22.46

Thats the one Ive got. Mine reads 90 degrees in boiling water which is about 10% out.
I dont know how far it is out at roast temps though, but Ive decided to take it back to Jaycar and exchange it for something better.. and hopefully more accurate.

Hey Gronk, I exchanged my broken QM1320 at lunch today. Easy, no questions asked. Hopefully the new 1320 will last until Santa comes and brings something more robust that I can also log roast data with.

I spoke to the store manager on the phone today and he sounded a little unsure as to whether he would/could exchange mine.
I told him it was a 200km round trip and I needed a bit more reassurance before I wasted my time/petrol.

If I get there and he decides not to exchange it Ill just retire it to crappy multimeter duties in the shed, and buy a different model
