is there a section on this forum to post pics?
sorry i am new to CSs...
    No need to apologise.
Thats a ripper of a roaster! A real classic.

There is no special photo section, but there is a roaster section, so maybe a moderator can move it there so more can see it.

-Roasted coffee reaches its best around 48 hrs after roasting.
    I disagree.
    This is a generalisation.
I agree with you, it is a generalisation as beans have different behaviours, levels of hardness, moisture content, etc, etc.
Hence, I roast 3 batches let them degas and try them over the following days...try to understand the behaviour of the oxidation process of that particular bean, the weather of those days surrounding the event, especially moist and rainy days...
which is what makes home roasting exdciting

i find 100g is ideal size for me... see previous post as to reasons why.

i like to roast in batches of 100g for 2 reasons:
1-it allows me to check the weight loss easily when i have finished roasting (usually I like it between 15-18% loss)...and,
2-it is a small amount to dispose of, if you stuff up.

    I usually do 3 batches:
1- 1st crak even all beans,
2- well into 1st crak, beginnig of second, and
    3- 2nd crak even.

once de-gassed, i try shots of the 3 different roast. when I am happy with one, i do another 100 g batch to try to replicate the selected batch to familiarise myself with the darkness, the craks, etc and then move onto a larger batch with these points in mind:
-Roasted coffee reaches its best around 48 hrs after roasting.
-Roasted coffee keeps its best for up to 7 days at room temp in a one way valve bag (obviously some alteration to the taste happens after the 2nd day sometimes enhances, but usually it gradually deteriorates...)
-I use 20-25g of roasted coffee a day, 3-4 espresso shots

i prefer to have my beans between 2-4 after roasting...

    Clockwork Roaster.... ~1900

I have a sample roaster that ive inherited from my grandmother, circa 1900...You have to wind up a mechanism that spins the tumbler and gets it going. the heating element is spun wire that runs in zigzags at the bottom similar to an old heater...but boy dont i have some great fun roasting!
Working...
