    Re: Bean Cooler

Part of the problem with taking photos is that they will show my workshop to have become rather much of a dumping ground for citroen parts, and assorted junk making my work space very poor. Fortunately I have access to two woodshops and two metal shops through my occupation teaching industrial arts. I will take the 20d out next time I am roasting which will be in a couple of days I guess. The first 200g batch I have at the moment was roasted 5 days ago and is ready to consume and the second 3 days ago and as such I probably need to get another resting ready for drinking. Stay tuned for pictures.

Pics to come - gotta get the 20d out to the shed...............
I did not remove the element to put the thermocouple hole in. One above and one below. I will post pics, I will post pics. The dust extractor was about 190$ + hoses etc. Does a great job pulling dust out of my 15" thicknesser, Tablesaw Table router and drop saw though so it can double as a bean cooler all the better.

Setup sounds great there Neil :-)

Some piccies would be nice too ;-)

Ive been thinking of doing the 2 hole method for the thermocouple as well. I just need to remove the heating element to get it low enough for the small roasts.

How much is a dust extractor worth? Im using an old vacuum cleaner which is almost the same thing. It cools up to 400 grams in about 2 minutes, which is quite acceptible.

And its true, the BM is meeting its higher calling as a Roaster!

    Bean Cooler

Got around to setting up my bean cooler on Friday. It works a treat drags 200g of beans to below ambient temperature in around 20 - 30 seconds. I guess 650 cubic feet per minute will do that when it is being dragged through a sieve 200mm in diametre. Also Modded the Corretto to accept the thermocouple through the side, two holes 1 fro 200g of beans and one for 4 - 500 grams a bit higher up. All up very pleased with my roasting setup now for a total cost of $45. Already had the heat gun, I actually bought it for softening glue to remove some god awful vinyl in my entrance way prior to tiling with granite, the breadmaker was donated to a worthier cause by a colleague at work who no longer used it as it didnt make bread anymore, the dust extractor unit for the cooler is straight from my woodwork shop. The $45 belongs to the damn Multimeter, oh well I suppose there is a price for technology.
Working...
