Hey mal.....what if i introduced an exhaust of sorts somehow? do you think that would prevent the battle?(between heat sources ;D)
    That would be OK Warren.

You could even turn it your advantage by devising a simple cyclone to attach to the exhaust and capture all of the chaff. You wouldnt need to do anything fancy and this would ensure that all chaff was removed from the roasting chamber.... 8-)

Ok i have a plan to try and attempt to compare TOs and enclosures online.....if i could get a hand from anyone with a KKTO or variant and the DMM and datalogger software it would be greatly appreciated :-*

This is mainly aimed at Gra as he is getting amazing climbs to fc prolly faster than anyone here with the KKTO or variant, but i would love anyone who would like to give it a go, to get a larger range of tests.....

This will(sort of)show raw heating power of the unit and thermal stability also......

Please describe your setup, your brand and wattage of TO, insulation you are using, you current power solution to the TO from the wall and any other pertinent stuff that you think may be relevant to conditions.....

Now, from a cold start, with no beans whatsoever, hit go on the datalogger software and hit full power on your TO, allow it to get up to temp and let it cycle for at least 10 mins, then turn off the TO and leave it on the roaster, and allow the temp to come down under its own steam till you run out of plotting space in the software.

Please leave the preferences as default in the software including the max time to graph so they all have common arcs when we compare them....

Save them as a good quality image at 640 x 480 and post em up here and we can compare......graphs lol

I really appreciate any help you can offer in this experiment

Ill go do mine now and post it in 25 mins

      cheers

Warren, count me in as I would also like to eliminate some variables as this is extremely frustrating as people will be using different techniques etc. We will at least be comparing Granny Smiths to Golden Delicious

wonder if others comment on whether they have ever got condensation on the glass lid like I do?
Hey, MM........guess what, I had some condensation with last roast. It was the first time I roasted Sumatra Mandeling 2009. Andy did say on BB that any fresher and you would have to pick them yourself so I wonder if they had more moisture than normal. It was a blend of 400g Brazilian natural pulped & 100g of the Sumatran. Next time with these I will pull out the Corretto.

Im not accross all t/o and perhaps there are some differences in how they circulate the air. My whilst not a sealed system, does not suck air in from the outside, nor blow any out. There is 2 fans on it, an upper and a lower. The lower fan circulates the air around in the chamber,

The upper fan that blows warm air out the top, (apertures in the housing) giving the illusion of air flow through is actually just keeping the electronics from overheating.

It is not interacting with the roasting chamber, as part of the roasting process. If air was actually being circulated in this way, there would be a fair bit of chaff and dust accumulating in the top section.

Im not sure it matters that Michael is learning, the profiles he used are well documented. As he learns he will most likely just adopt longer profiles with more drying to help offset the issue, as was evident in his latest roast with which he noted that he was happy with the weight loss.

Perhaps my results were completely different to others.

I wonder if others comment on whether they have ever got condensation on the glass lid like I do?

Im not sure why we are having a debate about this, when really it should be a discussion. As far as I am aware the KKTO is still a work in progress. In my opinion as a home roaster, it has lots of potential. Why do I feel like my observations are unwelcome?
just to note, i just noticed when i was inspecting my stuffed TO, that mine(cookwell) is also a sealed system, no holes whatsoever for air to be sucked in........for what its worth

Ta, WSully, not sure about the temps as per the data logger as I seem to get to FC @ about 185 ish. When I first tried an empty run I used my other non-logging DMM and it was reading temps of 270-280c??
