Hows your ambient temp look mono? bout 24C where you are now? FWIW your profile is what mine would have looked like if it hadnt died on me

Ive sent gra a PM asking him to post his .csv like you did so i can merge the graphs to see climb rates......

    cheers

24c inside [I would imagine the garage where the test was done would be the same] and 19.6c outside.

              Ok,

The first pic shows the difference in heating power of monos and gras TOs, which is quite amazing since they are both exactly the same brand TO! Gra mentions that he is using a 15A power lead from the GPO, is that a 15A output on the wall Gra?

The second pic is a cut i did to show that monos heat retention in the assembly is actually better than gras, ive just cut that part of Monos profile and placed it over Gras at that temp.....

I wish mine hadnt broken, then i could of whacked mine in there too.

I guess the problem here is, and this would explain why some ppl are having problems and some are cruising to first crack within 10 mins!, is that buying TOs is a little hit and miss, and you dont know what your buying until you dump in your first lot of beans.......hmmmmmm

              Your thoughts?

This wave form is due to the element cycling.. ie. Not switched off. It also runs for some extra 10 min which will add to the latent heat that may be transfered to the over all system. Thus appears to hold better.. Assumptions.

Apples with Apples guys not Apples and Turnips.

                Ok... A method of sorts.

                1: Empty pot.

2: Start with timer set to 25min

                3: Heat set to 250C

4: At the max temp ( to be determined) or when the element starts to cycle.... Let it do one cycle and then Heat to be cut to Zero.

5: Timer and fan to still run; untill the timer cuts out.

This way you get a sort of compare as to MAX heat and rate of change / Accuracy check of the Inbuilt timer / A cross reference as to when the controlling cct starts to cycle / A guide as to heat retention.

                ASSUMPTIONS: ( For a start )

1: System sizes are teh same.

                2: Paddle is teh same

3: Air flow of the system is teh same

4: Temp probes are of the same thermal mass and placed in teh same spot.

5; Temp meters / logger are teh same and set up the same... No offsets and accurate

Yes i realise that mate im looking at the climb to max temp at which the element cycles........Gras got to 289, and very steep climb, monos got to 224 and was petering off as it rose......

See point 4 and the method.. The units are set for 250C..  I doubt that it is ever going to get close to 289C ( in particular towards the bottom of the bot.  - 289F ???   )...

Thus it is only too easy to draw conclusion biased on possible flawed  data or data that is out of context.

                    [edit]

Mine on an empty test has previous reached only ever a MAX of about 225C  +/- 5  ( Insulated etc)

Thermal fuses in these things are max at 240C...  And I would suggest that the thermal fuse is in fact much lower and is what has failed in yours..

                    289C... Lotto ticket...

Nominal operating temperature and teh yellow are two values that I often have to replace, not seen too many above 216C.

289F is 142C, light roast that one! ;D i dont doubt that it got to 289C, min will.....errrr did after several cycles.......see here and this peaked higher in other tests....
Now i know that assumptions are being made, especially to do with the volume of the roasters.......but the temps????? hmmmm

he mark, fancy a brew at Vs in the morn?

                      cheers mate

Guys there is a digital halogen TO listed on the bay of evil [search turbo oven] From the description it is 1400w @240v & has a digital timer & thermostat. Not sure if this would be an advantage but it may reduce the cycle time and allow more precise control.

Just to throw in another variable, but I guess different thermocouples have a variable in them too. ie Im using a Jaycar bead sensor. If Wsully & Gra are using different sensors & mounting in different areas of the pot it would make a difference to the temperatures recorded.

For the record I think mine would turn out like monos dry run. All the DMM roasts Ive down have turned out with that up down format which indicates to me that my bead sensor is just recording air temp, not bean temp.

Also Ive moved into the garage (on my new work bench) to roast to see if that makes a diff.

Na it is what I am using and the model info I posted a few post above.... I think the element may produce a quicker response but the control ?????

Depending on sample rate it you will see different data.. A good bead will take on teh Bean temp but also be affected by exposure to AIR. Nothing is dead flat / straight... There is always a cycle effect.
