    Re: Time to migrate to a BMHG Roaster - Corretto

    Well, I lost maybe 1/2 dozen beans. Ill have to post a photo of my chimney - its two modified original popper chutes screwed together. 8-) So its a different shape than the exhaust pipe / can. It gives the beans a more "mushroom" shaped chamber to dance around in.

    Ive also developed the early roast "shake". Rather than stirring the beans, I slowly and gently shake the popper up and down until the beans are able to start moving by themselves under the fans pressure.

    The 200g is also a calculated value, rather than a qeighed value. There were 174g of roasted brazilian beans after the roast finished. I figured upon a fairly typical 15% moisture loss, so 174/85*100 = 204g, so theoretically it could have bean afew grams more or less, but not significantly either way.

      And would the same thing for heatguns be useful?

      Something like

      Make/model
      Maximum heat output
      Number of settings
      Any issues with the HG
      Tips on use of the HG

      and anything else you would like to suggest.
      Good one JavaB,

      I think for both it would be good to have a length of service field, in other words, how long have you been using, how long did it last?

      As an option the cost and place of purchase could be good.

      Or in the case of the b/m where/how did you acquire?

        Re: Time to migrate to a BMHG Roaster - Corretto

        This thread is for the posting of basic information on bread makers and is intended to be used as a starting point for those looking at acquiring a bread maker for coffee roasting (aka Corretto).

        For ease of reading posts should be made using the following format:

        * Make / model
        * where/how did you acquire
        * internal size of bowl (width, depth, height)
        * minimum quantity roasted
        * maximum quantity roasted
        * requires modding to run for sufficient time yes/no
        * max run time without mod
        * comments re other mods required (shortened paddle etc)
        * location of temp probe and any issues re installing
        * any general comments re use (deep bowl - heats faster etc)
        * photo of Bread maker (if possible)

        This thread is not for any discussion, only informational posts in the above format. Any posts made not of this type will be deleted.

        Unless you have some additional information about a machine that has already been covered please do not make an additional post.

        Please use the regular forum for any discussion or questions.

          Looks good there Java. A place for a picture, which says a thousand words, would be nice too ;-)

              Re heatguns, I suggest adding length of warranty.

                Too late guys and gals!!

                Greg had already posted a sticky:

                http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1164000407

                whilst I was preparing one.

                Mal / Greg.... you might want to add suggestions from this thread into the HG sticky.

                    Re: Time to migrate to a BMHG Roaster - Corretto

                    Mal,

                    Thanks for moving the BM info.... will go fill mine out shortly.

                    The extras requested for the HG are

                    length of service , in other words, how long have you been using, how long did it last?
                    place of purchase
                    length of warranty

                    the ones re " Any issues with the HG" and "Tips on use of the HG" are covered in Gregs "notes".

                    Im not sure if place of purchase is acceptable (dont think sponsors sell heat guns) if so it would go after price.

                    That seems to be about all.

                    Will go fill out my BM details now.

                        $30 seems to be a fair price.
                        Check some completed listings to verify my thoughts on that.

                          Re: Time to migrate to a BMHG Roaster - Corretto

                          I paid 26 dollars for my BM and I thought that was reasonable. Was cheaper than my popper and I already had the heatgun so I probably should of gone to the corretto first of all.
