Premixing is only really a goer if you know all the beans in the mix hit each milestone at the same time. Generally youd be better off roasting seperately and doing a post mix.

Ive been using P2 C every roast and find my ideal weights so far are varying between 300 and 360 grams, depending on bean used. (Using the logic that I want 1C about the time it is powering down and 2C as late as possible without hitting the 100% leg at the end.)

Funny about the premixing as I roasted a premixed blend last week, had 200g each of PNG and Dipilto Nic so put them both in at once on the 1LB setting, partly because I didnt have the time to do 2 roasts and so I could see what a premix blend does in the roaster

roast consistency looked nice and its pretty good in the cup so far

Id concur with pavoniboy that around 350, maybe 400 grams is the sweet spot for the 1LB setting

The resting time seems to be up to personal taste, for me anything between 5 and 7 days seems to be good

If youre new to roasting id suggest trying your beans from 3 days onwards, you can see how flavours develop and work out where your sweet spot is

Oil on the beans comes with time - personally I prefer no oil on my beans, but as my roasts age the oil does come to the surface if its a darker roast - this is around 2 or 3 weeks post roast in some cases

Please can any-one help me? I have just this morning recieved my roaster, and after unpacking and reading the "quick start guide" did the systems check, which all seemed to go well, so I did adry burn. The cylinder didnt turn for this cycle but I thought this might have just been becouse there werent any beans in it. I measured out 250gms of beans and started these off on P2 but once again the cylinder didnt turn, so I hit cool, waited til it stopped then checked the chalf tray. The cylinder seemed to be free, so I gave it another try but once again nothing turned. After reading a little further into the destruction book, it said to wait an hour between roasts, so I did this, still to no avail. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a dud. Help

Is it the bean canister that isnt turning?
If so, check that the locking nub on the right hand side of the cylinder is correctly located inside the housing on the wall of the roaster (its a square plug in a square hole). It may take a few tries to get it inserted correctly but itll go in eventually (lol! ;D)
If it still doesnt turn take everything out, the press 1/2 Start with the door open and check the housing on the right hand side of the roaster to make sure the motor is actually turning. If not, PM Andy to find out what to do next..

Sometimes you need to bend out the "holder" piece on the left of Behmor to engage the right hand side lug into the motor properly.

But, as rjo89 says, try running it without the bean holder in and check if the motor is turning. If it is turning then it is probably the bean basket that is not engaging in the motor and you simply need to bend out that left hand side piece to engage the right hand side properly.

                      Hi Trisha,

Just email Andy (always the first call to check with your supplier ) and he will come back to you with some options...

                      Good luck!

Thanks Chris. Have sent Andy a fairly detailed account of what I have done so far and am now just awaiting his reply. Thanks to all who replied . Much appreciated.

What would adding time manually do to the heat profile setting? Take for example, the P2 1lb C setting; the total roast time is 21:30. It hits 100% power at 18:00 on the timer, at 8:00 it drops to the 70% heat, and at 3:00 it goes back up to 100%. If you add time manually, what will it do that standard heat setting?

Try it and let us know!

As I said to you yesterday as Keffa Han, dont get so hung-up on details, roast, try, roast again. What works for someone else might not work for you as you have different goals.

                              newtoespreso,
If you havnt got a copy of it on your computer yet, you may want to have a look at behmorthing

ive found the profiles that it shows based on your entered time settings to be quite useful, would be a really good tool to check out and get an idea of what your time changes will change on the profile

ive found it quite handy to avoid the 100% ramp up at the end of P2

                                Just a side note...
behmorthing was written in the US based on a US model 110v roaster and may have very little to do with the roaster that we have here (as I know the author didnt buy an Australian one)
