Done that last night stickers on !!!

Ok update on the 60/40 Blend with AM....I couldnt wait until this afternoon - I needed a coffee and had none ready to go...

Took a few pulls to get the grind right, likes the coarse end of things...ok.  Ground the beans, smells really strong and fresh.  Loaded the handle and stuck in the machine.

23 seconds later pulled to review.......suspense part....

dabbed the pinky in sloshed around my mouth, thinking, thinking - hmmm, strong, good body, no bitter taste, not too sweet - just lingers a little and not tasting any burnt flavours yet.   Ok going for the sip - yep strong coffee body, wont last long I dont think - there are the occasional hints of something I cant put my finger on it ....

Added a some milk for a double ristretto (ish) - hmm this works -  not bad, but there is a little aftertaste not much.  Could be the Honduras or the double roast ?  Not sure as I havent had this before, its not bad but noticed.

overall salvaged - and a small amount too (240g as it wont last long am guessing before it goes off.  Excellent !!!!

Cheers AM for the save. ;D

    No problems...

    1: A pre blend...
2: It was ejected early..What was teh worse that could have happened.. BIN it..

    Nothing ventured = Nothing gained

Besides; we had the right tools and a calm and focused approach... There was no mad panic and hand waving and crys of distress..

Just a couple of blokes; kicking back with a coffee and a couple of roasters...

Tis what time after work is about.

PS. Great to hear that is was / is actually drinkable though... I may even get to have my MM in the morning.... 14 Days.

when the newness has worn off a bit a couple of layers of cloth tape over it should do the job. Still should be pushable but not as easy to miss hit. The D board is much the same if you are in low light.

On a brighter not just did an image google search for Hottop D, one of the results got me this some of the others well

If only the switch was like that ....no mine is the current B model KN-8828B.  You have to press the select button to highlight power or fan - if you miss you hit Eject.
Been there done that! Ive asked Hottop to make the Eject button red rather than black like everything else. I wouldnt be holding my breath on it though.

I just want to know what the SA 60/40 blend as prepaired in the HT/KKTO actually comes out like ?

In effect at about 206 and solid rolling FC the beans were dumped.. That mood lighting on teh deck.. Then they were decanted into the KKTO at full power...

Some 4 min later cracking sounds... ???? Look See... OH crap... SC well under way...

Dumped into the AMBunnings Cooler and 45sec later room temp... 2 min later and nicly cool... Bagged and double heat sealed in a used BLACK bean bag????/

The proof will be in the cup/s

PS. We then did a PNG W AA in the KKTO and AMBunnings Cooler and this was as expected; baged and heat sealed in a High gloss gold bean bag.... SHould be good.

    Opps- dates not indicated..

PPS. Also donated a few grams of the Fair Crack beans... Such that the man can play...

PPPS. It was black and sleek... Thus had to be a Hummer ;D

Nice one As to the eject switch I reckon it would be better as one of these below, if yours is the same as the old D model if the power flicks off then on again it auto dumps too

    Re: New to Roasting

All I can say it wasnt me in the Hummer....I did drop into Angermanagement though for a roasting session.

Ok in summary the final product was a 60/40 HT/KKTO Double roasted special blend - namely Brazil naturals and Honduras Los Bancos.

The story...fired up the HT, got to see all the fancy colours changing and smells, first crack hit 202 - thought it was a good time to hit the cooling...ok here we go (the mood lighting effected my eyes) .....you cant just press the fan button the B model, you have to press the select first...in the fumble that followed the beans were ejected.....OOPS

Lucky AM had his roaster going - double roast salvage, dumped the beans into his roaster to get to second crack and an inch of its roasting life.

After cooling the beans were inspected...hmm pretty close, proof is in the tasting - will crack on Wed night and guessing the shelf life is about a couple of days max.  But cant wait.... I think, if I survive anyone up for special double roast blend ?? lol

In short good session for me - thanks to AM, learned quite a bit just fire up and listen in short just.  Few little extras I need get like lighting to help with the roast, some whiteout to see the damn buttons,   But overall successful from my point of view in a strange way - your gonna make mistakes but thats learning.

Thanks again to AM for hosting looking forward to the 6th.  Pity the 60/40 wont last that long sure it will be a great coffee !! ;D

Fair enough - thats one of the great things about the Hottop - it lets you roast the way you want to rather than having to do it someone elses way, and Im sure youll find it even more so once your DX project is up and running!
Scollops made teh mistake of dropping over ;D

I will not steel ;D his thunder and hit what transpired :

What is in the cup will be the proof

Damm I hate it when these big dark Hummers do slides in ya street and then have teh hide to pull up in ya drive way 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

    Re: New to Roasting

    Hi Greg,

with the standard D model I have been using (currently undergoing brain transplant and playing ) I normally dont drop the beans until 100 degrees so I like to have everything nice and warm first. Even when the brain transplant is done I will still be running it above that temp for a bit then wind it back to drop for a start.

    Works for me anyway

Also not sure if you did it or not but the Hottop likes a good warmup before the first roast of the day so run a short program of 10-12 minutes to preheat.
I must say Ive never done this and not had any problems with my first roasts. Second roast and onwards in a session normally start a bit slower due to the unit already being warm so the heating element isnt on for as long before loading, so I guess doing that would make them all behave the same way. Im more inclined to drop the next load of beans into the drum when its cooling at the start of the next roast and use them to cool the drum quicker, then eject them when it reaches pre-heat. While you still dont start with as much residual heat, the beans start off a bit warmer so you dont get as much of a temp drop when you load the beans as theyre already 40-50 degrees.

Well done you have cooked the first batch and no bad smoke came out

All of what AM said but relax and enjoy is the key, even take a beer to do the roast sit back and watch listen and tweak.
