Re: Inexpensive Turbo/Convection Oven from Aldi

for KKTO builders, what if you removed the glass and put it on to the "lid" of the stock pot? (cut hole etc)

how important is the veiw through the glass on a KKTO?

i have an old TO and have considered removing the glass and fitting to other ideas.....

      cheers

Do a search on KKTO... Stands for Koffee Kosmo Turbo Oven

Ya can even buy a kit and get the TO locally... Thats why it was developed..

If I remember the power rating is was about 1100 or may be 1200 at best.

At that price.. A cheep second element.. A mod to add it to a KKTO and up the power ....

2200 say 2400 watt is that magic number.... Calling Mr Wsully Think of the batch size.. Big pot and 1.5 to 2 kg greens NO problems..

If i was going to remove the glass in a TO, id personally want to replace it with something better than glass for insulation purposes, not stainless on its own.

The view through is very important to me, as without it your relying on temps and cracks alone, you would have no ability to see the beans at all, smell is limited as its a closed system, and i like having that visual, as you do with a commercial roaster and the *sampling probe thingy they have on the front.....

*sorry for the technical mumbo jumbo ;D

Re: Inexpensive Turbo/Convection Oven from Aldi

Most critical aspects of the design is
            1] Volume
            2] Heat
            3] Insulation
4] Prevention of heat loss from contact points

If you are handy please press the WWW button at the bottom of my post and it will direct you the original design plans

That roaster is still in operation

Re: Inexpensive Turbo/Convection Oven from Aldi

one of my "ideas" was to remove the TO from the glass and use it in a "drum" style roaster placing the element / fan inside the stockpot possibly from the bottom (but with pot on the side, so TO is on one end.)

it then circulates the air for chaff removal etc.

this is just a "idea" and possible halogen heating might join in....

drum rotation was then an issue..... how to drive it with the TO sticking out...... roller bearing / gear drive ?

mostly just from stuff i have sitting in the shed from Freeganing around the palce

how about a scaled up KKTO,  with a home made TO on top.  (say, a recycled stove / cooktop element + controller, with an oven fan behind it..)

Another concept drawing from about a year ago

Heat source can be lower wattage to suit 10 amp plug

"Catch Of The Day" is selling the same unit for $39.99 today.
But with shipping it may not be worth it.
