Have you found out any more info about copper when its oxidised?
So far 6 months of using my baby, and no short term ill effects.
Have been through my annual health check up and nothing turned up on blood tests.
No effect on the taste of finished product either.
One of the reasons i chose to roast using the baby is the long history of the Velox and the different incarnations through the years.

Am sure Coffee-Tech would have tested the "toxicity" of copper thoroughly.
My water copper pipes are 40 years old.

I dont think the copper is mixed with alloys as the specs says its 99% copper.

I wasnt concerned about the harm aspect... more about the heat conductivity. Copper is in so many things itd be hard to avoid I reckon.
Is there a coating on the baby roaster? If its even a 1% alloy that may avoid this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_toxicity

Considering you dont consume the beans directly in coffee... hopefully no worries especially if you have a clean bill of health.

Copper and its many alloys only become a concern when exposed to a situation where the metal can be leached into drinking water or food for consumption. Mostly, this is only likely when an acidic electrolyte is involved....

Thanks to Mark from Coffee Roasters I have now done my very first Baby Roaster roast.
Im stunned at the speed it got here to Victoria all the way from Queensland. Man that was fast!! Less than 24 hours  

Anyway I found it incredibly easy to use, and could hear both first and second crack easily due to no other noise from machinery.
I used 200 gm of Ethiopian gambella which I love but has always been a tricky bean to roast and always ends up looking like a 3 bean mix.
The whole roast took about 13 mins.

The very first roast with the FZ-RR 700 produced this result which is the most even roast Ive ever had from these beans.
Can hardly wait to sample a brew tomorra morning

Ok so I opened the lid on my coffee storage jar smornin to be greeted by a stronger aroma than Im used to.

Measured the usual amount into the Mazzer mini for my double espresso and double latte, and hit the grind button.

A few seconds later I was hit by a huge bloom of aroma.. more than I can ever remember

So far so good.. more than good!

Now I havent got an educated palate and cant pick nuances in most flavours, but I do know what I like.
Ive heard people use the word "sweet" when they describe a good espresso.
Ive cant ever remember tasting "sweet" from any espresso Ive had... till this morning.
Best tasting espresso Ive ever built myself !

Next came the latte. Nothing that stood out as particularly note worthy, except that it had more "body" than my usual efforts. Very nice!

Both double shots seemed to run and run before blonding, and there was a lot more crema then normal.

Ive roasted and consumed quite a few kilos of this Ethiopian gambella and this morning was the best its ever tasted.

I think Ive found the replacement for my aging old corretto setup

Yes, its the manual model. The auto model has a motor drive system.

How did I go with all the turning?
Wasnt a problem at all. Whole process only took about 13 mins.
I didnt constantly rotate the drum. Just flicked it back and forth, and lifted it out for a quick shake every minute or so.

Not a chore at all

It certainly is a fun and rewarding way of roasting.

When it gets nailed right, the flavours are fantastic.

I normally do mine in the kitchen. Even though the exhaust fan do their job to get rid of the smoke, the aromas after first crack is intoxicating.
